Taking bike to Oz

Guys, going to Oz for 6 months and plan taking the bike (circa £4K's worth) so would be grateful for info' on the best way to do this. This is where I'm at so far..........get a box from the dealer and pack VERY securely, lots of bubblewrap! I've spoken to the airline and because of excess baggage costs (suitcases plus bike) they put me in touch with cargo carrier partners whom I am yet to speak with. It seems I can choose which to check in normally (eg just cases or one case and the bike) and then send the rest with another cargo carrier. They also mentioned taxes that may be due on entry to Oz? Help very welcome...thanks!

If the bike was £4k, and thus I'm assuming carbon, spend 10% of the value on a bikeboxalan and sell it when you get there, buy something similar for the return leg and sell it here or keep it for future trips. They are designed such that parts fit in certain places and not where you can find space. then everything is strapped in place. its pretty much a samsonite case for a bike.

if thats too much of an outlay, there are some pretty good softer sided bags on CRC (their big blue one has a lot of good reviews) that are around £100. cover everything with bubblewrap hten use one of those.

Personally, I think a cardboard box and bubble wrap is way too risky.
