Cayman 2.7 price
Discussion
Morning all
Trying to help a friend on negotiations for the above. Spec is as follows:
Cayman 2.7
2008/08
23k on the clock
Black
19" Carrera classics
Extended leather
PCM
Sat nav
Bose
The car is up at an independent for £23,990, a quick glance at Parkersburg shows a value of £20,065.
How much weight is attach to options on used caymans?
What would you say is a fair price based on the limited info above?
Cheers

Have you asked your friend how much he'd be prepared to pay for the car? That info, weighed against how much the dealer will sell it for are the only two factors that have any relevance in the deal.
Are you going to suggest he justifies his offer to the dealer based on advice received here or from Parkers? I fear the dealer may laugh or kick him square in the nuts. Or both.

I wouldn't, I'd get a year or two older car with similar mileage and look around the 17-18k mark. If he definitely wants that car and spec I'd try for no more than 20.5k.
Or, get a 2009 2.9 for between 25-30.
Only one of those options that would be a must have for me after owning a 2.7 Cayman would be Bose, the standard stereo is shocking. Extended leather is nice, would give satnav a miss.

Generally a used car buyer is less interested in options/colors and more interested in the condition of the car and its price.Trying to help a friend on negotiations for the above. Spec is as follows:

This does not mean a buyer accepts a car in an ugly color or without must have options. But your friend has to make some decisions.
As for options I tend to discount them quite heavily. When I bought my 02 Boxster I got it new at a price that that made over $5K of 'options' free.
When I bought my 08 Cayman S that listed at $62.6K for $50.6K I got way more off the car than the options cost. Way more.
What I generally recommend is a shopper search for all cars for sale that are similar to the one he's interested in. Search in your case the entire UK area. Do not limit your search to that specific model year, or same options. A year plus or minus is not a big deal.
Get a feel for the market. Find out how many cars are for sale, their miles, prices. Note how long the cars remain on the market. If the turnover is rapid... the market is hot and deals will be hard to come by. But if the cars stay for sale a while...
Also, keep a note book of cars for sale, their ad details, contact info. Then after the car is no longer offered call and see if you can learn what the car sold for. Sometimes (dare I say most of the time) the sale price is lower than the asking price. You want to know regardless.
If you have web sites that give the wholesale/trade in price, private sale price, and retail prices of cars visit that site and find out what the car is worth as a trade in.
In the USA generally a dealer will have in the car something close to and often less than "wholesale".
Thus my thinking is the car is worth between its wholesale price and how high I want to go. I know what I could buy the car for if I was willing to pay the asking price.
Remember: Price is not fact only an opinion.
There is always another car.
Sincerely,
Rockster.
