My Dad has reels and reels of Cine film footage of all sorts of stuff in B & W and Colour.

Is there a cheap way of putting it onto DVD or something? The younger members of the family may be interested in seeing it in the future.

There is also loads of footage of local Rallies and Mallory Park races from the Walsall Car Club, would local achivists have an interest?

Any tips would be appreciatied.

We had a load of Grandad's cine converted to VHS years ago, it was sent to a company to do it. I'm sure the same companies out there must convert to DVD these days.

Funnily enough, I am starting to look at converting the VHS to digital files.

A whole load of places do conversion to digital formats, i.e. BluRay or DVD. Have a google for someone local to you,and have a word with them. It's probably not going to be cheap, but a lot less hassle than doing it yourself.

As far as the non-family stuff goes, I'd be tempted to get it digitised and stick it up on YouTube before handing it over to an archivist, who will assume responsibility for taking care of the film, probably by sticking it in a dark cupboard for ever.

Thanks chaps.

The local company has closed down. Who uses film anymore, huh? rolleyes

I guess it means sending it away, though you have no idea what kind of edit you'll get back.

I still haven't worked out how to upload a photo to the net yet, let alone YouTube. That is the DIY option out the window then.

Cheers for your help.

There seem to be a few who will run a test reel to see if you are happy with it,so look for one of those.

As far as the uploading goes, that's what teenaged relatives are for - bung them a pocketful of sweets biggrin
