First ever road bike ride
Discussion
So after a week of trying to decide what to buy , i finally decided on saturday to mail order a bike from westbrook cycles. Having never even ridden a road bike before i must say i was slightly worried but that worry soon changed to excitement when i recieved a text to say my bike had been delivered at 3pm yesterday. Only problem was that i was stuck 30 miles away on a training course. I was itching to leave , and once they said im free at 4pm i literally raced home up the M1.
The bike arrived very well packaged, it literally took me 30 mins to remove all the bubble wrap, foam and tie wraps. I then set about building it up which was very similair to a MTB so not too hard. The brakes took some working out, and removing the big plastic disc behind the cassete was a nightmare.
After setting up the bike the best i could , i had my tea then went out. It took several attempts to gett the seat at the right height, and the bars at the correct angle. First impressions was pretty good. I felt comfortable withing 2 minutes, and couldnt believe how fast the bike rolled. A completely different world to a MTB even with fast rolling tyres. I must admit im struggling with the SPD-Sl pedals compared to normal spd's, but im sure ill get used to it. Did about 20 miles of quite hilly riding, and came home with a big grin. I did have a few moments as the steering is very very twitchy, and not what i used to. Nearlly fell off in front of a bus stop full of blokes whilst looking over shoulder. My confidence at anything above 30mph is low, as on a mTB im not bothered until i get to 40mph +. But im sure ill be fine
My front mech is slighlty out, so i need to sort that. ( i hate sorting gears) , but apart from that its brilliant. Hoping it stays sunny as im off tomorrow, so hoping to do a good run out. My aim to do 100km within a month of today.
Bike is a cannondale supersix 105 team replica.
