Just along with all the camera-gear chat it's occasionally worth discussing the very unimportant topic of composition

Quite agree Don't always necessarily agree with everything people write about composition but I find that just thinking about it yields better results even in shots taken quickly.

Do sometimes wonder if I should try using a tripod more, just to slow the process of taking a shot and spend more time thinking things through. Guess I don't take a lot of landscape shots

Just incase any Lightroom users hadn't already found it - you can toggle between various different composition overlays in the crop tool using 'o'

You can choose between:

• Grid
• Thirds
• Diagonal
• Triangle
• Golden ratio
• Golden spiral

Didn't know that, thanks... the compositional decisions should really have been made long before you get to lightroom though

fair enough. I learned on digital though, and then went "back" to film. I was the king of carpetbombing on digi, particularly at airshows.
