Agency wont pay me

Long story short.

I registered with an Agency, did a total of 3 hours work in a factory and left. I signed IN to the factory, but I left (quit) early (was supposed to be 12 hours) I didn't sign OUT.

They are now saying they refuse to pay me my 3 hours work (all £18.24 of it) Because I didn't sign out.

My argument is I wouldn't bother trying to rip them off for £18, And I just want what they owe me. Their argument is "no sign out = no pay, no matter what", I asked to see where I signed agreeing to this, and they said "I told you to sign out".

I see their point fully, How would they know how long I was or wasn't working but I still want paying for work I did. I wouldn't bother for £18 but the two polish women who run the agency started shouting at me and getting very irate, So I would like to prove them wrong and that they do indeed owe me a wage.

(I may be totally wrong and not entitled to anything, but that's why I'm asking)

I can't help but feel life is too short for less than twenty quid.

Ask yourself this; if you dropped twenty quid in town, would you bother going back to hunt for it? Of course not. And that would be less hassle than what you propose.

So your agency placed you, you went to the job and after 3 hours decided to walk out. You inadvertently didn't sign out, probably as it wasn't at the forefront of your mind to follow procedures if you were buggering off.

You subsequently request that the agency, whose name/reputation has probably been tarnished as a consequence of your actions, pays you for partial completion of the required day's work.

You then wonder why the agency has a go at you, but mention the totally irrelevant fact that they are Polish - so there is a subtext that this means something in your example.

You say you worked 3 hours, but because you didn't sign out the agency don't know if you worked 3 hours or 5 minutes. They told you to sign out for this very reason but you decided not to, so how can they pay you?

Its not the money its about getting what I'm owed.

I walked because I disliked the job in a big way. I do not need money enough to do that essentially. It was at Cherry Valley, a big factory that deals with ducks, and its not a nice place to be.

Why go to that level of hassle for such a paltry amount, especially when you're in the wrong?

Sorry, but you took a job, walked after three hours because you didn't like it, and want to be paid for those three hours, despite not being able to prove you were there for those three hours because you didn't sign out as required?

Thanks for the serious answers though. I can quite happily ignore the £18. I freely admit I was wrong and should have signed out. I was very civil and apologised for my actions and they just started screaming at me in their office, which made me change my point of view.

Also, would anyone else feel a bit embarrassed to be making a fuss over £18? I'd hate an agency to think I needed it so badly, I think.

You cannot prove how long you worked that day. This is probably why they insist you sign in and sign out.

Did you agree with the agency to turn up and work for as long as you wanted to? Or did you agree to work the hours stipulated in return for the pay stipulated?

It seems you are in breach and are lucky you are not being billed for their losses in finding a replacement at short notice...

I was passing the office and thought I would drop in, £18 is £18 at the end of the day, plus my fuel for a 24 mile trip. It wasn't a problem until they was both screaming at me.

I'm not here for opinion, I want to know what my chances are of getting my money.
