merc wanted but what engine??

Hi, am about to purchase a 2nd hand c class merc 2009 shape onwards. I am really stuck what engine to go for ? She has a diesel golf 170bhp which is just about fast enough, i know the merc is bigger/ heavier and need at least that power or more, we were thinking about getting a 320 (i think that is 3 litre diesel with about 200 bhp?)but there is also a 350 ? is that more power ? when i look in classified adds on here , down the bottom they put power , but seems to differ?
Dont want to waste anyones time trying there cars, so just need to know best one to get, we could get petrol engine as she only doese about 6k miles a year?
any help will be appriciated..

yes thats what i thought but am struggling to find an engine that is the rigt power? There are loads of diesel ones for sale i think the 200 is 180 brake, the 200 is 200 brake, the 320 is 231 brake & the 350 is 260 brake? but not sure what petrol size/ model to get ? Do they do a 260 ish in petrol? all the cars now are diesel it seems, petrol on its way out unles you go massive like c63. I want something quite powerful...

I had exactly the same problem, lots and lots of diesels available but hardly any petrol version unless you want a C180. I managed to find a C350 within 3hrs drive of where we live and it had all the options I wanted so was perfect (apart from high miles). I love the noise of the engine and it pulls like a train, plus with 7 gears it never seems to be short on power. Get a petrol Merc as it seems to be the last of a dying breed.

Do they do 350 petrol? what power is that?I suppose re sale will be affected as most people want diesel now..

Mine is a C350 petrol, 3.5ltr v6 with 270bhp. Check all the specs on Parkers:-I suppose re sale will be affected as most people want diesel now..

Don't mean to state the obvious OP but have you tried the Mercedes-Benz official used car website?
It'll tell you 0-60, bhp, fuel type, torque etc etc all for a specific budget, age, mileage etc of car.
It's the easiest way to see whats actually available in this country for a specific budget, then you can spread your search wider into non manin dealers if you like once you know what is available.

It covers all C-classes from the dawn of time. The model you are looking for is called a W204.
Why don't you just go and drive one? If it doesn't go fast enough, drive other cars with bigger numbers after the letter C until you find one you like.
