Recommendations please – Cordless Drill/screwdriver

I’ve burnt out my Bosch cordless drill and the batteries are knackered. A bit disappointing after just 5 years as I’ve always found Bosch stuff to be almost indestructible. So, any recommendations for a replacement. Budget around £100. Thanls in advance.

Go to BnQ and get the dewalt drill.im a chippyy by trade and use these on site....they last me two years,thats with constant abuse .think they come in at about 100 squid,hope this helps.

De Walt or Makita in that price range

For home use ni-cad batteries probably ok but li-ion are more compact and lighter?

Screwfix often have some good offers.Paid £110 for this one 6 weeks ago!

If your batteries are still good might be worth looking for a compatable Bosch

Bought the Makita 18v one from screwfix recently. Very good value and lightweight. Also more substantial that the £90 dewalt at b&q. I weighed those two up and decided on makita and am very pleased. From screwfix with accessories the other week for £110. Accessories not worth paying full price for but gives you a good "one case" set to carry around when on special and worth the tenner more than the bare drill

+1. Comes with 2 batteries for £100. Great value.

Makita for me , look out for screwfix deals .
IMHO Dewalt don't look as good since the Black and Decker buy out .

I bought a Makita one with Li-ion batteries which are out of your budget but to be honest it's too bloody powerful - if the bit catches on the lowest speed max torque setting it either breaks the drill bit or spins and rips your arm off!
I do like it though well made and I am hammering it now.

I'd check screwfix now - just got their daily deals email - choice of 3 dewalt, mAkita and hitachi all for around £100-120.

Picked up a catalog this afternoon and been looking on the web-site. The Hitachi DV18DCL2 looks good value.

Its got two Li-Ion with slightly higher Ah than the Ni-Cd's of the Makita.

Any one got any experience of Hitachi tools?

No experience of Hitachi (except for a telly a while ago) but do think they look a bit "tacky"

At the end of the day its 90% about the batteries and they probably all come out the same factory ?



Just don't buy anything with JCB on it, how can a company that make the Worlds best diggers put their name on so much cr*p ????

Hitachi are OK in my opinion but the only tool i had burnt out a bit too soon .
I wouldn't worry about li-on the old Ni-cad are more than capable for pro use , a mate has recently got the set with bits in the lid , i have a makita bit box and most of the kit is worth having .
