Hello guys!
My first post in here and i'm after some help / advice. I've wanted to buy a road bike for some time and like many others i've been inspired by the Olympics and senor Wiggins to get my backside in to gear!
So, i've not ridden a bike for about 16 years and things have changed a lot! I've been doing a fair bit of research and have found that for £700 ish I can get a good bike to get me started, particularly with the sales on at the moment!
I've been to my LBS and he sells Orbea and Ridley bikes. He's got an Orbea Aqua with full Tiagra groupset and upgraded the wheels to Mavic Aksium ones. It's a lovely thing and fits me perfectly. Whats the opinion on Orbeas?
Then I saw an Eddy Merckx Amx-1 that has been reduced to £699 from £999 which seems a bit of a bargain. It has the same full Tiagra set up and looks a similar bike which is expected considering they retail at the same price ish!
I love the Canyon Al 6.0 but sadly I just missed out on the sale they have just had. £720 for a bike like that with a 105 set and Aksium wheels would have been perfect!!
Does anyone else have any suggestions to something else around that price mark?

What do you mean by Sparbuch? When I click the "check availability" link it's saying sold out?!How do Canyons sizes tend to stack up? I've done their online size checker and it's saying 56cm where as when I got measured up for the Orbea it was only a 51cm frame?! Would hate to order an incorrect frame size!!!
cant really help on canyon sizing but can give some general sizing info, i am 5"11 and have an inside leg of 32" and fit nicely on a 56cm with about 10cm of seat post. ideally i would have had a 55 but it was 56 or 54 and having sat on a 54, it was obvious that it was too small.
to fit on a 700c 51cm frame you must either be a very odd size or the shop wanted the sale and were trying to make the wrong size bike fit you. did you try anyhting else they had? most geometry doesnt change that much , so it doesnt matter if its a different make or model, at that price, they are slightly upright, more relaxed riding position. personally i would try a few other shops... there will be a lot of bargains around, just keep an eye on cycling weekly and the other magaznie adverts.

I must admit I found it a bit too good to be true that the one bike left in the sale fitted me. He seemed genuine and helpful but will be trying out some more to make sure, problem is i've got my heart set on a Canyon now 
I've found a site that has a few different peoples perspective on Canyon frames and what sizes they went for so will do their online sizer to check once i'm home

I've done the online sizing and it's coming up with a 56cm frame which is 4cm more than the one the guy in the bike shop recomended. I've done some looking and it seems that people with similar dimensions as me have bought similar sizes, happy about this as it totally threw me at first!
