Just getting back in the saddle after a very long time and have treated myself to a Trek Madone 5.2 which I collected today, I am looking to insure the bike and wondered whether anybody on here could recommend a policy/company or provide any other advice on the subject.

AIUI separate cover is very expensive, but adding a valuable bike to your home cover may not add that much to your policy. See here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=117...

I covered mine under home insurance. Has a limit of £2.5k, but near enough.

I added mine to the house insurance. Cost nothing as long as its locked to something immovable, which it is.

Marks & Spencer home insurance. Limit is £4k per item & bikes are covered. I snapped my Scott Addict recently & M&S have kindly paid me just shy of £2k to replace the frame.

The problem seems to be in areas where you want insurance the risk is higher so a £2K bike is about £200 to insure for the year, or atleast it was when I looked.

Ditto Marks and Spencer home insurance. Single article limit of 4k NOT excluding bikes, in and away from home for no extra premium. Rang to check my bike would be insured on holiday and in my car overnight and they said so long as it was behind a locked door. Bargain.
