Looking for hardtail MTB bike, £700 budget

Hello all,

I'm looking to by a bike for a mixture of light trails and city work, I have a budget of £700,

What would people recommend? I've been recommended a Felt Q820 by a friend at work (Although it seems to be end of line now)

You can get a Cube Acid for £699 from Leisurelakes, or a Cube LTD for £760 at the same place. Both 2012 models.

I have an Attention which I paid £680 for so the Acid is good value!

unbelievable spec for the money and all the geo data there to make an informed choice on size. Both Radon and Cube get their tubing from Kenesis so they are probaly made in the same factory.

I would recommend the Bordman Team HT. My brother has it and loves it. I have the Pro HT and am also suitably impressed. The Team is a little over budget at £850, but Halfords ( the only retailer) have frequent sales where it comes down to £700+...depends if you have to buy now?..well worth checking every couple of days on their site if you can wait. If not, go for the next model down?..

Agreed, although if you're only doing light trails then the team urban may be worth a look. Rigid carbon forks, stupidly light and excellent spec.

Pretty sure its under budget, think it's £650, and there's always the option at a later date to fit a set of decent suspension forks if you really want them (the Rebas on my HT pro are bloody excellent - adjustable travel, air sprung so infinitely tunable, light and stiff).

A friend has just bought a Cube summat or other for £700, that's also very nice, but I'd personally go for the Boardman (better spec, lighter and I prefer the geometry/riding position).

I would recommend a second hand Orange P7. One of the best all round bikes I have ridden.

That does look like a hell of a lot of bike for the money. As a current owner of a Canyon though i think my money would go on the Grand Canyon AL 6.

I've got a Felt 720 which I bought earlier this year whilst on offer,much like the one the OP sited.

Been fine overall,seems plenty of bike for the money with only the fork being a bit clunky.
Saying that my last mtb was a £2k trek so it was never going to compare.

Worth a look I reckon.

At that price point I would always buy Kona personally.

Parts spec will be lower but in my opinion the geometry of their bikes rides the best. Compromise by buying one of last years bikes. Win-win situation is to get £200/£300 off a £1000 bike.

Paul's bikes has a very good range of new 'old stock' at really good discounts.

It's hard to find a 'bad' bike nowadays, especially if it's going to be used 'lightly'.

You might want to look at the Carrera range in Halfords too. Bit porky but solid, reliable and more than up[ to the job.
