This was vastly more entertaining than the F1 race that preceded it. Lots of overtaking, very close racing and the occasional crash when their enthusiasm exceeded their skill. The drivers all came across as real people unike the anodyne PR groomed highly paid young men of F1.
Perhaps Bernie should put his 20 "stars" into RX8s next year?

Yep, it made for entertaining racing. I do like the single formula racing as the competition is far closer. F1 = BORING AS HELL.

The last race was at Brands a few weeks ago, so I assume you watched it on TV?

If yuohavent thought about it, why not go along and watch some club racing? There's bound to be at least one circuit near you, with usual entry costs of £10. That's for 4 hours qualifying in the morning, and 4 hours racing in the afternoon. Usually the organisers choose a variety of races, so you m ight see Formula Fords (young hopefulls, full of passion and some with great skill), older cars with experienced amateurs, even possibly old F1 cars or old Touring cars.

A whole days entertainment for £10! (children under 16 free when accompanied by an adult)

Try it!

I'd like to see Natasha Firman try F1. She'd probably be better than her brother!

I watched the Knockhill round and swore I wouldn't bother again.

Boy those cars are sloooooowww. I know they're all equal so the racing should be good anyway but if you look at the Tuscans (supposedly all the same) every race is dramatic, noisy, filled with amusing antics, moments and the odd crash but, more importantly, close and competent racing.

As we finished watching it the wife said to me - "YOU go round faster and that's saying something!" - so complimentary my wife - but she had a point.

So I'm glad you all reckon the later races were fun. Frankly I'm not convinced - after all - when the comparison is a particularly dull F1 race its not saying much now is it?

Why? Because nobody's slagged them off yet?

Racing is not just about speed, it's also about competition.

Watching 3 or 4 cars vying for the lead, changing position 3 or 4 times a lap, is more entertaining, as far as I am concerned, that watching a procession at twice that speed. The F1 race was a joke - it was decided at the first corner and there was no racing after that - it was a time trial. Total bollocks.

I have to say I saw 3 great single seater races at Silverstone. I think even Griff2be wants to do FPA!

I'd have to admit it came across better than the f1 yawn fest and actually had some racing to watch...

Jamesc: "Andy, you should have a go in the FPA's"

Andy: "I might have to if the Tuscan Challenge is axed"

...is not quite the same thing.

There is little point in me doing single seaters. At my age it makes far more sense to continue in sports cars - single seater teams are not interested in anyone over the age of 12...

Exactly - in fact racing not about speed at all, its about racing. 2CVs are as competitive and fun to watch as anything else. Generally I would say the quicker the cars go, the less 'racing' there is.

What? And you think FW is for real? It's a farce.

The racing looked pretty real to me. Did you watch it this week. It appeared that they were told to go for it - last 2 rounds of the series so the cars could get a little battered.

I reckon that until the brands rounds they were told to avoid accidents at all costs or they could lose their drives! Some of the racing earlier was pretty tame but not bad for novices.

Some of the presentation of FW was pretty 'Big bother'esque and made for the current fasion of reality TV but I think the underlying intention was a good one.

Wasn't too impressed with them offering double points for the final 2 rounds though - I think it was a decision to make it possible for Natash Firman's big lead to be beaten.

I'd have to agree there, some of the best wheel to wheel stuff all season was between to tasmins both with sick engines fighting for last place !!!

in fact two of the best races ( and hardest) i've had in terms of excitment have both been for last place when i've had engine trouble... in contrast the wins i've had this year where much easier ....

In terms of FW, i though the brands round showed that the girles were all trying even if their lap times are slower than a sick class A tasmin the program its self may be a bit contrived, you carnt maintain that once you get on track..

I've heard a rumor that Loraine Pinner may be in a Ginetta in the 3/4 October rounds of the championship. I shall therefore be reserving judgement on the abilities of the FW drivers (well at least the good ones - Loraine won the most races) until after said race

Mazda surely aren't going to be too keen on doing the series again given the number of mashed RX8s so far.

Andy! You are younger than most of field. At least five of them are older than "Uncle Rodney". Infact Gary Eastwood is a little larger than "Ex 29"! With your Tuscan Experience I am sure you would make top six.

Audi Palmer Winter series???

Natasha Firman (winner of Formula Woman)

V

Mark Johnston (winner of "Be a Grand Prix Driver)

should be interesting.

It is also interesting that Lorraine Pinner is racing the G20 at Thruxton! Mainly because that is where Amy raced the car earlier this year.

Good luck to Lorraine.

I must admit, the races in FW were fun to watch, and I like the idea of a female motorsport champion.

However, I've got a bit pissed off recently by that woman who wrote the book The Pits, about sexism in F1. OK, so F1 is up its own arse, but if she'd bothered to look at some of the more illustrious female rally champions, or been to watch club level motorsport and seen men and women competing wheel-to-wheel, she'd realise it was less of a man's world than she'd been led to believe.

Also, when she comes on telly she says that women are 'naturally' better racing drivers as 'their bodies can handle greater extremes of temperature and are more flexible'.

Says who?
