There is also a 996 buyers guide that I believe is sold through Amazon.
Search on here, there are plenty of threads about this very topic. I have owned 3, PM me if you would like to discuss.

The Hartech stuff is certainly worth a read. As background, I found this a worthwhile purchase:

Definitely get a specialist inspection - I used Peter Morgan who was good to deal with.

There is a buyers checklist here which you might find useful: http://www.porscheclubgb.org/clientftp/Register/99...

Originally, I had a 3.4 996 and then 2 996 C4S Cabs. My current car is a 996 C4S Coupe with 95k miles on the clock. Overall my experience has been good.if you have owned 3 i assume your time with has being good? it will be my first porsche to be honest, after years of cosworths. but had a love of them since i could crawl.
Here's another one from GTPorsche mag: http://www.gtpurelyporsche.com/buyingguide.asp
.. plenty of info to read on here.. but when buying go for one that has had a recent service, a clutch, the engine coolant pipe joint mods, a full set of discs and pads, and the aircon rads changed.. that should keep you out of trouble for a while.. or make me an offer for mine that has had all of the above.. I'm having a another 997 soon maybe a TT... 996C4S is a fantastic every day driver..
