Just thinking back to the days when you could not get me away from the tv while F1 was on, those were the days, they even had such outrageous things like shock horror- overtaking
Now I realise I only ever watch the start hoping there is a crash or something, anything to make the snoozefest of F1 worth watching.
And today horror of horrors I fell asleep after 10 laps :boring:

Having talked to friends I am not the only one, people who used to love the sport don´t watch at all anymore and I have to say I agree with their response now -" watch touring cars or superbikes or GT´s thats real motorsport"

I can´t be the only person who has turned their back on the sport and if that´s the case F1 is in big trouble.
Watching the bit of the race today in Hungary (race being used in the broadest possible sense) I was shocked at how few people were there watching.

I know there is nothing I can do about it but just wanted my 10p´s worth and maybe some other opinions.

Nothing to add reallly. Apart from being very impressed with Ferrari and wondering just how many MS will win and whether anyone will ever beat the records he is setting.

I now look forward to F1 races as I find it's the only time I can sleep in the day - I get to sleep quite easily with the noise in the background (if only they didn't ramp up the noise for the adverts!)

I'm off for a coffee now!

I forgot to say
did anyone else hear James Allen admit at the end of the race today that the highlight was watching Ross Braun eating a banana?
My god it´s worse than I thought even the commentators are bored

I thought that the comment by Allen was quite eye opening. He normally over-enthuses about everything but even he had to admit that today's race will not go down in history as much of an event. Tony Jardine had stated before the race that F1 seriously needed to address the whole issue of aerodynamics and the effect it has on following cars.

I agree that Formula Woman was much more entertaining - partly because they showed the clips they filmed at the Brands Hatch track day I was at on July 20th.

In answer to the original question, no I don't watch F1 anymore. Having followed F1 since the mid 80's, I no longer have the will or patience to watch it anymore. So can't comment to Hugarian GP, as I was busy out enjoying myself down a nice country pub with me Julie.

F1 is dead in the water and its going to take some doing to bring it back to its former level of entertainment.
A good start would be to put the hearing public out of its misery and relieve James 'we have a really exciting race in prospect folks' Allen of his duties.

I used to watch it and really enjoy the whole race.

Then I used to have it on in the background, whilst reading the sunday paper. In case anything exciting happened

Then I took to watching the first 10 mins, knowing that the only chance of a crash / overtake was in the first corners.

I don't bother at all anymore...

It's going to be interesting to see what happens when all the big money sponsors realise no-one's watching

I'm usually busy Sundays...but I was feeling poorly at weekend and caught some of the F1.

I was blown away...........wowwww those cars are fast.

Only problem is the racing is shite. I can't believe not one car overtook an other in a racing sense, except the Renault at the start. The only overtaking done was lapping backmarkers.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

I thought I would try watching the highlights so that the boring bits would be cut out. Mistake. All they seemed to show was pitstops, one after the other.

Yawn, I'm off to bed.

But the pitstops are the highlights of F1 2004!!Schumie now wins his races by strategic stop intervals.
Welcome to 2004.

I've taken to watching British Superbikes instead. Far more exciting. Really do need to get myself to a race some time soon.

I've been an avid follower of F1 since 1964, and like most other PH'ers I too fall asleep watching just the edited highlights, which I didn't bother watching until last night, having isolated myself from any news since Sunday so as not to spoil the "excitement".

A mate of mine has taken to watching videos of races from the 60s and 70s every raceday as his "fix" as he too finds it all completely boring these days.

Bernie had better pull his finger out and get it sorted before the bubble bursts . After all, he bought the TV rights for the next 100 years!

I agree.

Some circuits don't help. Hungary and Spain are always boring races. But its true there was never *that* much overtaking in the first place.

And thats a good thing! No, Really!

If we have constant passing, it becomes boring and pointless, meaning that we can only look to the last corner of the last lap to see who wins.

I honestly think it needs to be difficult, but not impossible. Then moves would still be spectacular when they happen, and you'll know the drivers done a good job to get past.

I honestly think if they do something to allow a car to get close to another through a corner (a little ground effect maybe?) then overtaking will look after itself. F1 drivers don't need any help in getting past the guy in front. They need help getting within striking distance!

I'd guesstimate that I've only watch about 10-15% of all F1 laps so far this season... normally the first few to see if anyone gets the jump on Herr Schumacher, plus (thankfully) most of the incident packed Monaco GP... didn't even occur to me to watch the last one... where was it again?!

Is it still shown on the TV - the last time I watched I thought it was a re-run of a race from last season - Tedious, tedious stuff.

I don't often watch for two reasons.
1) It isn't very exciting these days with all action taking plac ein the pits - if that was worth watching there would be grandstands outside every Kwikfit and I have never seen any!
2) James Allen is a prat and so far up Schumachers backside he has forgotten what the outside world looks like. Today was another classic from him - he said about the masterclass we were seeing from the cobbler and then when he only came second you could hear him going flaccid.

The solution I have found to 2 is to turn the sound off on the TV and listen to Radio 5 live - makes for a much more enjoyable race, if I can be bothered anyway.

i tend to watch the start and then have it on in the background. having said that though, if it wasnt for martin brundles excellent commentating, im not sure id even bother. certainly i noticed his absence a great deal in the previous race and im fairly certain hes less than impressed with the man allens performances. going one further though, can you imagine racing with no commentating at all? itd be dull as hell.
