Referee liability

Dont worry its not a biggie, but my tenants are getting shirty after they failed to pay rent, left the property and are owe me money. I was just wondering if the referees/ references are liable for anything?

Are they guarantors? If not, no.

Mmmm, no. So i cant go down this route, there's plenty of others which will go against them.
