Bloody thing's started flashing on daughter's car. Limited searches on the subject, but a couple come up with loose connections under the seats. Had a quick look and jiggle about but can't see any problem under there frown . Before I get bent over by Toyota (it's out of warranty), any Aygo/C1/107 owners had similar and managed to resolve? TIA

That's what I was talking about Fastra, duff connection (cheap), new ECU (bent over). Just wondered if anyone had come up with a different solution.

A few people suggestion disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes to clear the fault -worth a go?

yeah, battery was something I was thinking about trying over the weekend. Worringly , I read somewhere else while looking for a solution that warning lights for stuff like air bags constitutes an MOT failure since he beginning of the year frown

More worrying is that fact that they're not working at all though!

Update from weekend. Took car in for its service and MOT, had the vaseline in my pocket ready smile . Nice service chap came back after about five mins to tell me they'd managed to clear the fault , thought it might be caused if the battery was a bit on the low side (daughter has a habit of switching lights on before starting car). ECU detects slightly low voltage during its startup checks and disables air bags. Said later Aygo models had a ten second delay before running the checks.

As an aside, he told me that the MOT tester said that the airbag light problem wouldn't be an MOT failure anyway. In his words "it's not a vehicle saftey feature, unlike something like anti-lock brakes or stability control". Didn't seem to make sense to me, but wasn't about to argue. Thought about it later and I can see a difference though, airbags are purely passenger safety, the fact they won't deploy doesn't make you a danger to road users or pedestrians.

Glad you sorted it, have a run about Aygo and the Power steering ECU is dying it's intermittent fault where after usually anywhere from 100 yards to 3 miles you hear a click from under the steering column and the PS comes to life. Pain in the ar$e thankfully have a friend who works for Toyota so I'm not requiring to much vaseline just changed the discs and pads on the GT-R so in comparison I can't complain at the prices of Toyota parts.

Regarding the airbag and light though it would fail regardless of what Mr. Toyota advisor said.

Supplementary restraints

The vehicle will fail the test if any airbag fitted as original equipment is obviously missing or defective.

On 1 January 2012, new rules were added to the current MOT by the Department for Transport (DfT) to comply with European testing procedures.

It's a pretty substantial list, but there's one addition that could mean big bills for thousands of drivers. If your car has any illuminated warning lamps, whether it is the airbag, seatbelt, ESP, SRS, ABS or others, it will soon fail the MOT.

Warning lights

As well as electronic parking brake and electronic stability control warning lights (where fitted) the MOT test will also include checks for the correct function of the following, where fitted;

Headlight main beam warning light
Electronic power steering warning light
Brake fluid level warning light
Tyre pressure monitoring system warning light
Airbag warning light
Seat belt pre-tensioner warning light
Steering & suspension

Hi, I have the same symptoms to my car, my power steering does the same thing, but especially in the morning or when the engine is cold, so you need to wait for 1-3 minutes until you hear the sound under the steering that makes the p.s again full working. So I would like to ask you, what was the solution about this problem. Now im getting also sometimes Airbag light, today started and I don't know as well what it causes...Thanks in advance.

the air bag warning light does not have to illuminate and then go out to pass mot
ie it only fails mot if the light comes on showing there is a fault
(so if the bulb had blown for instance ,vehicle would pass mot )
ps not many mot testers know this, most think it needs to come on then go out

Yes it does

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_540.htm

Method of Inspection

2. Turn on the ignition and check the presence and operation of any Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indictor lamp(s) (MIL)

Reasons for Rejection

2. A Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp:

. inoperative

a) this thread is ancient
b) that's completely wrong - if the light is inoperative that is a fail

IIRC the airbag warning light not illuminating was going to be a failure point but there was a rethink and it was changed to srs lamp illuminated only is a failure, also if the vehicle has the facility to turn off the passenger side airbag this can apparently cause the lamp to illuminate in some vehicles so if switch is in off position again its not a failure.

Got a link to anywhere that backs that up? All the resources I can find online state that the lamp being illuminated or inoperative is a fail.

I stand corrected - found the latest version of the mot testing manual on the main government website and it only states that it's a fail if the lamp is illuminated.

Note to self, go to the source in future not 3rd party sites that claim to accurately reproduce the information.
