parking at National Cycling Centre?

I'm taking my son to the Manchester velodrome tomorrow morning for a taster session, he's hoping he'll be the next Jason Kenny. The website says free parking, but I can't see if it's lots of parking or if they just have a couple of spaces that get occupied from 7am by commuters coming into Manchester. I don't want to have to drag him there and back on the train and bus, but it may be easier if there is no usable parking?

22 miles is a bit far for a 9 year old on a BMX, and we have to be there around 8:30 am!

there is loads of parking nearby. Given there is the athletics track nearby, get him to do a few laps of that as well in case the cycling ambition doesnt work out!

There's a car park next to Centre, by Evans. If you're there for a taster it shouldn't be full. Otherwise there is Asda just round the corner.

Don't forget the BMX Track in there as well, doesn't he fancy being the next Liam Phillips as well?

There is loads of parking around 400 spaces

You can park on the right hand side as you drive in this is where reception is now and Evans cycles is next door or bear left and park behind the centre in the old car pack where you may see the team GB mini bus's and support vans etc. and after they are full try Asda and Man city's car parks.

If you are going to do this again and again tell the coach you want to progress to become track accedited as you need 3 other riders to do the first part of the test to go onto the next step.

Track bit are a must

The Velodrome has lots of parking, never had troubles parking during the week (although it has been a while )

Thanks for all the help - had no problems when we got there.

Really great place, want to go back and have go on track myself. My son didn't set the track on fire with his performance but he didn't fall off or wobble, which was probably more than I'll do on my first go!
