7D Firmware

Sorry if the subject is already running (search isn’t much help), but I assume the version 2.0 is about to hit us – Anyone have a firm idea of it’s release date? ( I understand it was announced to be “early August”)

Sometimes I do, but auto ISO is great when you want a certain shutter speed and aperture and still want a decent exposure, especially when the light is constantly changing.

The difference in quality between 100 and 800 ISO is quite small but it starts to suffer at 1600 and more at 3200.

In AV mode my 450D was always 2/3rds of a stop or so -EV, the 7D I tend to be 2/3rds to 1 stop +EV, so my experience matches yours.

I don't use auto ISO, I've found both cameras to be quite keen to run at 400-800iso, which I've found a bit excessive - I'd rather fix it and deal with exposure via aperture/shutter - leaving increasing iso are a last resort. No idea if thats a good way to go or not..

That's just a normal disclaimer by them.

That means if you install the firmware then the warranty is void surely.

I don't think they will mean if you install the software it invalidates your warranty. It just means they won't guarantee that the update will work with the camera. The instructions do actually tell you to ensure that the file size is correct before applying the update so I assume due to it being downloaded as a zip file errors can occur when unzipping and their disclaimer is to cover that.

I have just updated my 7D and it worked first time (as you'd expect).

Put in a standing order for new disks ....!

Yep, just done mine that way... you download the update copy it on to a CF card and then install it from that. There is a pdf with instructions with the download
