Sprint cycling/cycles
Discussion
Does anyone here participate in sprint cycling?
I've been watching it on the Olympics after a gap of a few years and love it, marvel at the power and acceleration they generate, as well as the nail biting tactics and excitement on the last lap.
Which got me thinking - I used to use a stationary bike (Puch 400 iirc) for interval training as part of my weights/cardio routine and liked to do interval sprints at the stiffest setting but it couldn't cope and broke.
I'm guessing that some of their training (other than squats etc.) is done indoors and on fixed bikes with v. stiff gearing and wondered what's available that people know of and recommend?

the load through his knees muct be incredible. i cant believe how his ligaments are not torn to shreds...
Photos of him squatting made me wonder too about injury potential. I suppose it's a trade off between the need for physical ability and the risk of getting it. At least he'll have access to top physios and doctors to help.CoolC said:

He actually has another pair of testicles there instead of kneecaps. The added testicular mass is needed to support the levels of testosterone required to cycle with no brakes at 50mph.

Reminds me when I bought an old frame from a guy in North London a few months ago. He showed me his brakeless fixie. Beautiful bike but a bit mental to ride that around the hills of North London.
Brakeless on a track when everyone else is brakeless...no big deal. :-)

I'd loveto know how much weight is on that!
No wonder they have big thighs.
EDIT Google to the rescue - 631kg
More than I ever did as an amateur but serious lifter rather than a cyclist!
I used to press 680kg on an incline press- but that wasn't unusual for a semi-pro prop forward- i always thought a professional front rower would make a ood sprint cyclist- mahoosive legs, probably a good enough cadence all for 10 seconds. No wonder they have big thighs.

used to train at the welsh sports academy in Cardiff (where Iwan Thomas and Jamie Baulch used to train) and the ONLY time i've felt like a sporting god was when Iwan Thomas made a comment to his mates that i was really struggling to press a waeight he could do easily (despite me clearly being a fatty)- 12 "yellow" discs plus a few more was only 150kg - he'd clearly forgotten that the yellow discs were either 10s or 50s. And they weren't 10s.
Genuinely thought he wasn't going to move again when he took the strain, took the brake off and the whole lot collapsed on him.
