Short breaks (2-3 nights) in the UK - Where?!
Discussion
Hi folks,
My girlfriend and I have pencilled in some time at the end of August to go away for a couple of nights together, but we're currently trying to decide where. Thinking along the lines of some sort of city break, and we had considered Bath, however looking at hotel / B&B prices, it isn't a particularly cheap place to stay! Unless anyone has any recommendations there?
We went to the Isle of Wight a few months ago and loved it, so would like somewhere with a mixture of plenty of things to see and do. We're not party animals after just nightlife though.
Would somewhere like the Cotswolds be a bit.. boring?
Suggestions are welcome
The alternative is to hop across the channel and spend 3 days in somewhere like Bruges.. A good idea?
Thanks

I hear many good things about York.
We went to Bath a few months back. It's nice enough, but you can see all the things worth seeing in one day. Otherwise, it's just a little boring.
Canterbury might be worth a look, otherwise if you have a car there are plenty of nice places in Cornwall to visit.

York is a good shout.
I was thinking about Cornwall, or maybe Torquay. People seem to suggest that they're not that great for younger couples though? I have no idea

Come to cornwall there are adventure sports, nightclubs in newquay, nice places for a meal, what else do you want.
I have had several long weekends in Brussels - really enjoyed them , Bruges too [nice].
Also if you are in Brussels for a long weekend - get down to Leuven for the day [home of Stella Artois and Hoegaarden, about 30 minutes from Brussels by train .. [I used to have to go there on business trips ...nice old town centre ]

We live in Glasgow, but occasionally go to Edinburgh for a touristy weekend. Never had anything but a good time there.
Ever been up north east area? My Auntie owns a holiday business up there, lovely places, and the B&B they run is #1 in Aberdeenshire.

Try after the schools have gone back, much cheaper.
Unless you have to go in August I would avoid. Thats one advantage in not having kids, you can go on holiday out of the school hols.
Unfortunately my girlfriend works with children and her holidays aren't very flexible, so we have to go at this time!Unless you have to go in August I would avoid. Thats one advantage in not having kids, you can go on holiday out of the school hols.
