Apparently some of the second unit filming for the next Fast & Furious movie is going to be done in Glasgow. Just the one scene byt he sound of it, but it could potentially be a nice wee car chase down the Clydeside …

I know it’s a bit sad, but the Fast & Furious films are a cinematic guilty pleasure for me. I really enjoy them, cheesy or not.

Anyone know anything more about it? I’ve heard rumours of the production team looking for ‘car extras’ around the UK, most likely to fill up streets as background colour.

Glasgow will welcome another major movie production soon, when FAST 6 films in the city centre later this summer.

The decision to film in Glasgow was taken after representatives from the production met with Glasgow City Council’s Glasgow Film Office a few months ago.

The production will involve around approximately 250 local and out of town crew members when on location in Glasgow in late August and early September, and will bring a significant economic impact to the city.

The shoot in Glasgow will be done by the production’s secondary film unit - the lead cast members will not be in Glasgow - and will take place at night.

Glasgow Film Office has been working with the production over the past few months to help secure locations and to ensure that arrangements are in place with council departments.

Residents and businesses in areas where filming will take place (Cadogan Street and Broomielaw) have already been consulted with by the film’s production office and are being notified of the filming and production details, with more details to follow in future communications.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “We are very pleased to once again see a major film production in Glasgow. It is great to see the city attracting another movie of this size so soon after our marvellous success in 2011, and I would like to pay tribute to the contribution of our Glasgow Film Office in bringing the production here. We look forward to seeing the FAST 6 shoots here and giving them a great Glasgow welcome.”

FAST 6 is the latest in The Fast and The Furious series of films.

So will the cars all be 1.2 Corsas with burberry interiors and fake intercoolers then?

Can I be first to wish Ollie all the best with his first non porno film role!

i seem to recall that in the first FF they asked for a few cars to show up to the event in the desert and ended up with 1000s. and that's before they were famous.

i'm sure if they were to ask, many people would be willing to bring out their best and brightest to have it in the film, regardless of how cheesy the films are tongue out

i'd happily take a road trip to get mine in

I was thinking they'd be using the Broomielaw right along the side of the clyde myself.

Will keep an eye out for it in a few weeks, would go right past my office.

Brings back idilic thoughts of closing off the centre of town and making it into a street circuit, a la old computer games.

You could make a cracking route if you closed enough of it.

Completely off-topic, but …

It should be pretty easy, for one skilled in such things, to build an accurate Glasgow city centre racetrack in one of the PC racing games … what with there being a free-to-use high quality 3D model of the city centre that was publicly funded a few years ago.

laugh What? 250 people with their own catering?

The only economic impact it'll have will be negative as they close roads off.

A closed off Glasgow street circuit, in my opinion, would be a similar circuit to the Seattle street circuit on the Gran Turismo games (Love that circuit). Dundee's Marketgait and city centre would make a heck of a circuit too I reckon.

Edinburgh could be interesting - Leith St, over and around the two roundabouts, London Road, up to Regent Terrace, Waterloo Place and right back onto Leith St again.

So even the Scotland forum is filling up with condescending prats now frown

Just across the water from my flat so I'm looking forward to seeing what vehicles they bring and whatever general hooning will be done. Cadogan street suggests to me they want to make use of the underpass where the road is divided by a traffic island, ideal set up for a big spill hollywood car crash.

On the corner of Douglas and Cadogan street? Certainly possible.

Perhaps we will all get emails requesting we bring cars for possible hire for the film!

My money goes on a Corsa with no suspension and colossal exhaust being the star car!

?

As far as I can tell, all the posters are, if not Scottish, residents of Scotland and have been in the forum some time.

Quite. Seemed a rather strange comment.
