Deleting photos from memory card
Discussion
I took a load on a recent hoilday and have downloaded them to PC.
Went to delete pictures from card and I can't get rid of two because the card says they are protected? images. Now, I must say I haven't 'protected' them, I don't know how to for one thing. Can anyone advise me how to get them off the card?
Camera is a Nikon D3100.
Cheers all

Is it an SD card with the write protection switch flicked?
It is an SD card and I'll check. What I can't understand is if the switch is flicked, how I could delete all bar two pictures.markmullen said:
If you leave them on the card till you next need the card, then format it in camera you've got it as a backup should something go bad with the copies on your hard drive.
Sort of, but you're better off having a proper back up solution, else you're high and dry as soon as you re-use the card.mrmr96 said:

Absolutely, I shot a wedding on Saturday, smaller cards (4-8Gb) as main card and a 32Gb SDHC in the second slot of each camera as backup, small cards changed frequently and put into a crushproof and waterproof case in my inside pocket, as soon as I'd finished I dropped the backup cards at my mum's house, downloaded the main cards onto my Macbook Pro and onto two external drives, took one of the externals and the main cards to my dad's house ensuring the images were on 5 separate devices over 3 locations.I was just suggesting not formatting them as a day to day extra layer of redundancy.

I have a 500Gb external drive which I put my photos on. Nothing else goes on there so there's plenty of room for a good few years. Thanks for everyone's input to my thread, it's nice to see people helping each other out in this day and age.
