Didn't do Applecross this time but did it the same weekend last year in glorious sunshine and with some other PH Ecosse folk. We did an overnighter at The Torridon Hotel. Brilliant... apart from the campervans struggling up the slopes! Yesterday morning at about 9.00 am.,I did the Ullapool- Scourie road and I met about three cars in 30 miles. Fantastic well sighted twistys coupled with fast straights and fast sweeping bends, all in a glorious and spectacular landscape. Two lanes as well which makes it even better. Not so keen on single track roads myself!

Personally though, if I had to choose to do one road one last time, I don't think you can beat the A832 from Garve to Gairloch, or vice versa. Early morning, summer time, dry, it must be the best.

Due to a recent fatal road accident involving a motorbike the A832 Garve - Achnasheen road has now been added to the Northern Safety Camera Partnership area of operations.

You will now unfortunately see a little white van parked on the verge in the middle of nowhere probably when you least expect it. frown

Thanks for the advice Doug. In Central Scotland the police advise the local papers which roads they will be active on in advance and the paper publishes this every week. Not exact locations but road numbers and towns. Does Northern Constabulary do something similar?

Knew I'd seen it somewhere ---http://www.nscp.co.uk/locations
Changes on weekly basis.

I wouldn't take it as gospel though .Was up north in May and heading south on the A82 ,just north of Letterfinlay , nice long straight, round the corner to find van sitting in laybye. My sit nag spotted him first as we were hidden from view behind a large wagon.

Steve, the local papers do give information on where the camera vans are going to be active for the following week but as you can imagine this is not always correct.

Some additional information about your favourite road from Garve is that it appears to be mostly monitored at weekends primarily in an attempt to discourage our faster two wheeled friends who were starting to use it in quite large numbers. During the week and in the evenings it appears to be free from little white vans although at this time of year that might not always be the case.

Thanks for that. I've looked at the web site. Could be useful. I presume all areas have this info. on-line so everyone should check them out when planning a trip anywhere really.

AFAIK there's a site for the southern side of Scotland. D & G do the M74 .I've only seen them in the past on J13( Abington bridge), but in May they've moved one junction south (J14),still on the bridge. Not so nice, as there's a bend which hides them from view.

In my younger days it was the only way round the loch, especially after a dance in Glencoe, or when the ferry was full of towrists. cool
