Lens pouch/case or sling carry thingy

Search not working. I want to keep a few lens handy on a trip and need to change from a zoom to a wide in a hurry for example. Or I might need to, who knows. Now, I am not going to buy a new lens to get around the problem, I am working with what I have.

I have the Lowepro rucksack to keep it all safe getting there and general travelling, this is for out the car on short walks etc. But it is a mare to get lens out change etc in a hurry.

Pouches on the belt or sling around the shoulder jobby? Lowepro do a lens case that will attach to the belt, as does a make called Matin that is made of neoprene though looks a tad flimsy. The sling around the shoulder from the like of lowepro look OK but anyone used them in such circumstances? Do they make for easy changing and storage?

I have a 70-300, 28-135 and 10-22 to swap between. So one on the camera and two to hand in some way.

Sounds petty but its bugging me.

Lowepro do a special pouch for your belt specifically for changing lenses. I can't remember what it's called but it's big enough to handle a 70-200. Perhaps a little large for you?

Are you planning to keep your camera in it as well, or is it purely for lens transport?

I have a Lowepro 55AW which I use to store my D3100 with an 18-270 attached, and have used it in the past to keep the 18-55 and the 55-200 together on walkabouts. It's really handy to have strapped over your shoulder and provides an easy to reach place for quick switching of lenses in the field.

It would probably struggle to keep all three lenses and your camera body, but there are bigger variants if need be.

That lowepro mentioned further up by gingerpaul looks handy. Jessops have them.

Back to the 55aw,how easy to swap lens if I may ask? You know, old one off, cap it and stash it and all that?

I've a friend who uses the lowepro belt pocket things, works for him , he normally shoots small primes though

Looks like the belt 200w thingy above is the ticket, the two pocket system cures one of my worries. Bit big though, measured up last night and might have to send a search party in to find the smaller lens. Not convinced on the sling around types, belt ones look a good bet either way. One of them 200w and a standard one and I think I am sorted.

I'd be a little wary of the belt ones, I used the pouch my 100-400L came in for my 70-200 sigma when I wanted to go for a wander without my kit bag recently. Ok so it's a fairly heavy lens, but it was pretty uncomfortable and kept pulling my trousers down...honestly if your lens has any weight to it I'd opt for a sling type thing, or even a vest if you don't mind looking like a dork. But I guess having a pouch strapped to your belt makes you look like a dork anyway!

Could get a trendy man-bag I suppose?

Not a problem, I was a little concerned I would look like a stand in for Batman or something (snigger).... but not concerned what I look like really. No one there will remember me in a few days anyway. When I go out with the rucksack and all the bits in, it is a faff getting at what I want quickly. The lowepro ones have Velcro fasteners I see so can take off for sitting down for meals etc with reaching for my belt and getting arrested.


As for manbags, well, I draw the line somewhere


Now that caselogic bag looks interesting, lowepro do similar, need more space for the lens.

I could really do with a vest. I think it'd suit what I get up to quite well but I can't bring myself to get one for that very reason!

I wear a vest through summer, it might look daft but most of the places and times I am out and about I am on my own anyway.

What did you go for Mark? I'd like room for a couple of lenses, a couple of speedlites, small tripod possibly, 2 cameras and lenses out possibly with storage for a backup body, batteries, cards, phone, notepad and pen etc. I should ring around and see if anyone in London carries this stuff in stock...

I use a combination of a Domke photovest for summer, a Gitzo fleece for winter and a Gitzo Four Seasons coat for really grim weather.

I've just bought the Case Logic one and it's ace, couldn't be happier with it.

I have a 'Matin' neoprene pouch (eBay) and, whilst the quality of the stitching is OK and the neoprene is nice and thick, the size leaves a lot to be desired.

I bought the largest to fit my 70-20mm. I appreciate the fact that I will have to take the tripod ring off to get it in but I also have to remove the lens hood too. Too much faffing...

It now sits on the side of my rucksack and takes a bottle of water/pop nicely.

It was only a few quid delivered so wasn't expecting much (quality better than I had imagined though)
