MTB Cassette Coming Loose

Noticed an annoying rattle coming from my bike over bigger longer bumpy sections of track.
Think it's the cassette. If I hold the pedal in place to keep the chain tight there's a few mm of play in the cassette gears (rotational movement as well as horizontal/vertical movement).
Tightened it, didn't last long before it rattled again. LBS tightened it but now seems loose again.
Is it new cassette time or possibly something else that's on it's way out? Don't know if there's bearings in there or something that might be damaged and be the problem?
Bike is a Canyon Nerve AM - not sure if the trips to Cwmcarn/Afan and bigger jumps at UK Bike Park are wearing through parts on a bike that's probably more XC focused than DH.

Sounds like the free hub might be shot. Easily replaced comes off with a big hex 10mm I think.
