Looking for a nice 2nd bike.

I am moving house soon and my commute will drop from 27 miles ea.way to a much more manageable 1 mile ea.way

As such I am using this as a tenuous excuse to buy myself a new bike, it doesn't have to be lightweight, sharp handling or the things that I would normally look for, stylish and 'a bit different' are much more the priority here.

Budget is around £500 but you know how these things go...

So far I've stumbled across the following;

Pashley Guvnor, really pushing the budget with this one but it is gorgeous

As you can see a somewhat varied bunch but it's nice to consider a bike based on the eye-candy factor and not just from a performance PoV.

Unless your one-mile commute is up a hill, go single speed, simply for ease of maintenance. If you have secure parking at home and work, then get something nice, otherwise I'd just go for a bit of a snotter...

That Pashley looks good, but I've already spent a lot of money on cycling gear, the missus would kill me if I had to spend a load more on tweed to go with that bike.

I'm moving back on to married quarters so effectively living at work, bit of an extravagance to buy a new bike but hey, any excuse.

How about a traditional Pashley? Tempted myself.
Heavy as a graden gate, but who cares...
Great bike, ride to the shops without poncing around with cycle clothing, funny shoes or any other muppetry. If you dont get on with it, they lose minimal amount when you sell on. But will probably keep forever!.

Same here- I had a Grifter waaay after they were cool. (Late 80's, early 90's) It was old and secondhand, and all my mates had BMXs then mountain bikes. But I loved it, and really wish I'd kept it!

I used to swap bikes with a mate who had a Grifter. Something about the big chunky tyres made it utterly unstoppable.

Unfortunately not, and I'll be looking especially un-retro as my uniform of choice will be the new PCS in MTP, not CS95. (KWIM?)

Perhaps one of the US Army would be more appropriate?
