Last Thursday I spotted a marked plod-mobile (Volvo) doing around 60 mph, but sitting only about 15 feet behind a truck on the M1. Ironically this was in the southbound section in Northants with chevrons showing the sort of gap we should all leave. The signs say leave a gap of two chevrons, but this plod car hadn't even left one... hardly a good example!!
Then, after I'd (bravely) overtaken them, they clearly got bored with this HGV's tailgate & accelerated to about 90 for approx 1 mile before pulling in behind another truck, leaving a similarly small gap.
Surely they should be pulling people up for such erratic driving, not practising it themselves? Or maybe that's the way you have to drive Volvos?!

Ah, you see - you have seen what I have observed in the past too.

When you purchase a Volvo (regardless of the police or not) you actually get a nice certificate - ownership of section of road - this then entitles you to drive at whatever speed you like, in any manner you care on that particular section on road. Not a problem you see as you actually own that section of road.... nice little jesture from Volvo there......

Supposedly the scheme has been expaned to BMW 3-series and E / S class Mercs too. Though BMW has only included the motorway network....

Cheers,

Paul

Well, I had a similar experience the other day, only he was unmarked. I was doing between 95-100 down the M6 because it was looking like I would be late for work. Nothing dangerous, loads of room, just going quite fast.

I then got an Alfa stuck in front of me who wouldn't move. After a while of me just sitting there and him avoiding the space to his left and sitting in front of me, he moved. I acceleratd and about 2 cars up glanced over at a New BMW 535i to see a police uniform sat in the drivers seat. I then had to overtake him at about 85 as I was committed. I pulled in front of him, and then pulled to the left when there was a big enough gap for me to pull over and do 70. However, at the sight of my car, and me only being 22, plod followed me as close as he could, which seemed to me to be a ploy to try and make me drive faster, I was having none of it and stuck to 70, every time I overtook something he followed about 1-2 car lengths behind, at 70. This lasted all the way to my junction.
