Yesterday evening I witnessed the worst case of drink driving I have ever seen!!

Now I know a few people who will have a cheeky one after work and then drive home. But this guy didn't know what planet he was on!!

Heading off to the mother-in-laws (so I was driving slowly) a guy pulled out from the local golf club in front of me. I dropped a gear and indicated to overtake. The prat decides to put his foot down and in doing so drifts into the middle of the road. He then proceeds to drift into the left hand verge throwing dirt and grass into the road before correcting.

I was fairly obvious he had been at the sherberts so I dropped back... bloody good job too, as on the next straight part of road he drifted into the middle of the road... over corrected, and drove straight into the hedge bounced a few times and landed on 3.5 wheels in the middle of the road!! I got out of the car and while Mrs Dan called the ambulance/police. As I got near the car the tosser was trying to restart!!! The front end was stoved in and one wheel was destroyed!

Needless to say he got nicked, but I couldn't get over that someone who was so sh*tfaced even tried to drive.

Luckily no one else was involved, the guy just simply drove himself into a hedge, but god knows what damage he would have caused if he had got to a built up area.

Oh, by the way while we were waiting for the rozzers the guy had a long conversation with the farmers dog

My old man is the Barsteward (!) of a golf club.. has been for 15 years..

there are people at that golf club who've always been coming in the club, getting comlpetely tanked up (15+ pints in an all day session!)and then jumping in their big ol' Mercs/Bims/Hunmobiles and driving home.. Golf clubs are a hotbed of this sort of activity..

And yes - this golf club has as large a police membership as any other..

Never witnessed anything as bad as this, but often have a "laugh" with my wife as driving down the road - trying to identify the number of pissed drivers! It is actually quite amazing the number you do see on the public roads......

I wonder if there is anything that we can do?

Cheers,

Paul

P.S. Tried drink driving once - AND IT WAS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY - I was utterly crap. Made me realise that it is simply not worth it, but was rather funny as I tried to plant my sisters Toyota into my Mums front room.... completely over judged it!

My car was on the receiving end of a drunk driver last year. I live on the outside of a slight bend in a VERY residential area. She came speeding down the road, saw a car coming the over way and paniced. She slid 40-50 feet (in the dry), up the kerb, over the pavement, through a concrete lamp post (cutting it in half) and into my front wall.

Having cut the lamp post in half, she is now sitting in a car resing with the weeks off the ground, with smoke coming from under the bonnet, and a 400AMP mails supply for the list nicely sparking under it.

The top half the the lamp post however fell over my driveway and on top of my car (only an escort but hay!! With noone in it).

When it got out of the house, she was in the car trying to restart it. Tried to get her out, but she was not having any of it. She managed to get it started then proceeded to try and wheel spin away. This was futile with the wheels off the ground though!!

Turned she was 3.5 times over the limit!!!

And people ask why I don't drink!!

PS: This happened in july last year and the claim is still outstanding as she has not responded to any letters from insurance companies and the like... :-((

Could it be they've not tried sending them to the local nick where she should be residing?

Actually this one happened minuted before I arrived at this spot about 1/2 a mile from where I live:

A small residential road with terraced houses on each side and cars parked either side forces you to a slow speed as cars pass on either side of the road. Probably only around 15-20 MPH at best. However, a woman comes round this section and piles into THREE (an MGF, a Metro and an Audi A3) in her Land Rover Discovery. Unfortunately the Metro was then pushed into TWO other cars!!! Nice little trail of destruction - On both sides of the road.

She was found to be 2 times over the limit! Now here is the bit that will get you - she GOT OFF WITH IT!!!! Ex-councillor you see. Avoided a ban, but landed a nice £2000 fine. However, as with all of these things, the local rag did some digging and discovered that she had 3 (yes that is THREE) previous convictions for drink driving each with NO BAN..... So this is a woman with a major problem that is allowed to drive a 2.5 tonne car on the roads while pissed.

Nice to see that there is some justice in the world and that the "powerful" people are treated the same. Caused a major problem here.

Oh, and while I am on this track, recently another ex-councillor avoided a prison sentence for sexual molestation - IN A HOSPITAL!!! And he too had a string of offences behind him.... Nice, no stopping him from attacking incapacitated people in hospital then....

What is the world coming to..

Cheers,

Paul

If only it wasnt true - I am afraid that the most damning thing that the judge had to say was that she was to be "forced" to seek treatment for her alcohol problem - no ban though.....

And the police wonder why we are loosing respect for them? Cos you have the sh*tty end of the stick with respect to justice - while this type of occurance continues we will not respect or trust them. Which is a shame of course because they didnt do anything wrong in this particular case - it was simply a quick scratch of each others backs.....

Now I knew there was a good reason to get into local politics... You can avoid drink drive convictions!!! Join the police force to avoid speeding tickets, and finally be a member of government and empty the roads for your own chauffer limo.....

I'll get me coat... its raining and I need a ciggie

Cheers,

Paul
