there was a poll on daybreak this morning stating.
"Should parents be given priority when it comes to taking leave form work over the summer holidays?"

personally i don't think they should, their lifestyle choice shouldn't give them the ability to jump in front of a non child bearing employee who has other, equally important things to do in that period.

No. Likewise with Christmas/New Year. People without children have family as well.

This. Often people with children think they are more superior in every way than those of us who choose not to have them, for whatever reason. You chose to have children (or maybe you didn't, and need to learn about contraception...) then you need to understand that it will burden you in some respects, such as going on holiday during school holidays.

No. Are single people allowed to go home 30mins early to get their tea ready and put the washing out?

Its called work - the clue is in the name.

Going on holiday in the school holiday when you don't have children is daft. Double the cost, too busy and surrounded by screaming kids that aren't even yours, whats the point?

Kids are like farts, you can stand your own, even enjoy them from time to time but everybody else's give you no pleasure at all!

Well, without children clothes would be a lot more expensive, and chimneys harder to keep clean.

Then again, I do like my holidays when I want them....

It's a difficult one.

I'm missing music festivals because of people with children had priority to book the time off. Small problem but still annoying.

My leave from work is only during school holidays. Should I never be able to go away because I have no kids?

As I've just had a daughter a few weeks now the answer is yes thumbup

Seriously I'm glad to be in a position where working Christmas and Boxing Day isn't an issue for me so other than that I can't see why there would be a scramble for days off in my office and like others have already said going on holiday during school holidays if you don't have to seems like madness from a cost point of view alone.

ETA I voted NO. It should be first come first served.

Parents have to take holidays in summer term or they can get fined by local authorities. If I did not have a child there is no way on this planet would I take my holiday in school holidays for many reasons, cost and being potentially surrounded my annoying kids. Shirley we should all live in harmony here!
