Had to crush a road bike last night

I work in the distribution warehouse of a large sports store, last night we had a road bike returned from a store, they had cross threaded a peddle and ruined the threads.

Instead of selling it as a second, or even repairing it, they made me crush it in the compactor, I really hated do it.

They do this several times a week, and I hate it every time, normally they are more broken or have parts missing than that, but these bikes could be repaired and used.

Is there a charity or something that may be interested in them, as I could pass on the details to my manager

Locally at least, there is a charity by the name of "Back to Bikes", which repairs and rehomes old or unwanted metal, to good effect.

However, if it's one of those really cheapo crap "bike shpaed objects" that you crushed (Google the term) then don't spare it another thought.

I wonder if there is something in this? Like all best laid plans we start here on pedal powered it will be full of enthusiasm at the outset and then eventually die on its arse over time but we could try collecting stloads of old but operational bikes, then find some deserving community in some far flung corner of the world, load up a few transits and take the bikes out there?

....and in twenty years time we take the creditr for the first Angolan GC winner in le tour...

I'd wager that it was more of a 'bicycle shaped object' than a bike, given that we live in the same area and therefore I can easily guess the company .

You're right, but to someone with no transport, I'm sure it would be better than nothing.
