Hi all.

A few questions. I'm looking at getting a mitsubishi FTO and i would like to know from those of you that have one, running costs etc..

Like servicing, insurance general running costs as while i can afford to buy the FTO, if it costs a fortune to sort out if there are any problems, its going to put the brakes on purchasing one.

Also do i need to look out for anything in particular when looking at one?

I drove one before I bought the Four.

Was a manual box, V6 GPX jobbie I think.

Looked wonderful. Went well once it was singing. Interior was a bit Japanese black plastic.

I preferred the Celica in the end.

i've a 2000cc GPX MIVEC, the tippity top version - and i love it - i'm only considering selling it because of the imminent tuscan S... it's not officially for sale really.

as for running costs, nadda... i'll admit, they get through tyres pretty well, i've had it for over a year now and on my 3rd set! partially my fault though.

stable at speeds, very good looking.

I went through a phase were i was considering swapping for something in the bracket, didn't end up doing it simply because there's nothing else in there that has the balance between looks and performance.

Only downside is that they're getting a little common - one of my main reasons for getting an FTO was for the little remaining "what is that?" factor. In staffordshire i think that's gone.

I've had an FTO (Manual GR) for about 3 years. Currently selling it as I've just bought a TVR griffith.

In terms or running costs and servicing, they're pretty cheap now. There's quite a few specialists (Camskill in Whitehaven, CMS in Brum, Eurospec in Camberley plus a few others - check www.ftooc.org for more details).

www.camskill.co.uk will give you an idea of parts costs.

I get mine serviced annually for circa 100 quid (full cambelt service cost about 300 iirc 2 years ago), and I change the oil every 6 months myself - easy job.

The most expensive thing really is the insurance - it was always high because it was an import and parts were hard to get hold of. they're not now, but the premiums have remained high. lower than faster stuff, but higher than other stuff in the same performance category (though it looks nicer )

Tyres, I get Avon ZZ3's delivered for £68/corner from camskill.
