Water pump pulley
Discussion
Hi folks,
Maybe I'm being a bit anal with my S3 not sure, however have recently noticed a small amount of 'play' on the water pump pulley, only about 1mm from side to side including the water pump spindle even though the pulley bolts are done up tight.
Did a nice 15 mile round trip yesterday as a nice day and I have no leaks water loss or noise/rattles and the car holds her temperature well. Plus the 'play' in the pulley hasn't got worse.
Is my water pump on its last legs?
Any info appreciated
Thanks.

Just tried the water pump on my spare engine and, as I'd have thought, there is no detectable play.
Time for a new pump before it lets you down

Definately time for a new pump, mine went in France on our Spa trip !!! I`d only got a few miles from the channel tunnel when the car gave the symptons, running hot, occasional squeeling of the pump bearing and a bit of steam. It took about 20 minutes to change, so not a bad job, it`s held on by 12 bolts all quite easy to get at. Time for a new pump before it lets you down

with my car is a recent receipt for a waterpump from "Sparesworld" in Wales - Looked on the website and can't see anything on there about spares at all but worth giving them a ring

I bought that waterpump as a replacement for the one I fitted, Chris produced a pump in the carpark in France, so you have an idea of what they cost, I had to wait a week for delivery.Gassing Station | S Series | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
