We popped in today, on spec, looking for a used C-class, petrol, auto, for my gf. Not too difficult, you might think. The first sales guy, who was hanging around in the car park, invited us to view their stock, but wasn't prepared to walk around with us, and point out what was what, so we spent ten minutes peering into the interiors and checking the badges trying to differentiate petrol from diesel, and auto from manual. Meanwhile, he disappeared inside, never to be seen again.

Their website claims they provide "a personalised, friendly service".

After a while, we got a bit fed-up out in the car park, so we followed him inside looking for help. The staff were standing around in various groups, chatting. We were the only customers in the place.

We repeated our request, and were allocated a youth, who said "why buy used when you can buy new?", and proceeded to show us a new C-class, with "a great finance deal". We said we were cash buyers looking for a used car, and at that point, completely pssed-off with their attitude, left.

I've bought a few cars in my time, but have never experienced such appalling customer service. At Harry Fairbairn (BMW), right across the road, they could not have been more helpful. They listed their relevant used stock and sorted out two test-drives (320i coupe and 325i saloon) on the spot. Moreover, they were friendly, as well as helpful.

MB are now firmly off the shopping list. These are people I never want to see again, let alone deal with if there was a problem.

You either want a Merc or you don't? If you do, go further afield.

I live in Glasgow, am on my 4th Merc but only bought the 1st in Glasgow, I've travelled to Manchester for 2 of them and went 500 miles to Eastbourne for the other - speaks volumes about my experiences with the Glasgow sales staff!

So not just us, then?

tbh, my gf doesn't quite know what exactly she wants other than an automatic "nice" saloon. Could be MB, BMW, Jag, etc etc. I don't fancy dealing with these idiots come service time, or if there was ever any problem with the car, and neither does she. The BMW guys were far more friendly and "normal", and I'm guessing she'll end up with a 3-something.

Funnily enough, the service dept at MB in Giffnock have always been excellent with me, sort any problems quickly and I always get a decent courtesy car if I need one.

Harry Fairbairn on the other hand, I had my old MINI in there getting some bodywork done & when I picked it up it was filthy inside & out (despite being given to them clean), they just shrugged their shoulders & said "sorry, we've no valet guys available today" - I've since been told they're actually Arnold Clark owned now so that doesn't surprise me as they're too big a dealer group to care about anything but the contents of your wallet it seems!

Good & bad service everywhere, sometimes it's your luck who you get on the day. In terms of servicing at MB Glasgow I now ask for one person in particular who I always get treated well by.

I'll express the same view - the service in MB Glsgow city centre is disgusting and had a full on argument with the sales manager due to shocking service I had in trying to purchase a 27k car.

Mercedes Giffnock is fantastic - have always been polite, great service, never try to BS you. Due to this I have always went to them for potential car purchases, services and advise. My friend purchased a new C class from them too due to this.

MB Glasgow are shockingly bad!!!

I found the same at MB Blackpool. Sales-people grouped together nattering.
Just because you work for a premium brand (i use that term loosely!), don't mean you can act like a stuck up arse smile

MB Preston were much better.........

Reading this back, this is EXACTLY the service I want when I go car shopping - a salesperson to introduce themselves then leave me to look at cars without them walking around in my shadow breathing down my neck, if I need info I know they'll be in the showroom. If that person is then busy when I go in, then I'll ask reception for whoever is free.

Maybe the salesperson just misread the situation?

My local dealer is shocking in all areas. I live near Bishops Stortford.......

....... but use Waterhouse in Braintree who are everything my local dealer isn't.

I complained to MB and a female in Holland defended the deplorable behaviour of my local dealer...a far cry from when it was run from Miton Keynes where customers were treated with the respect they deserved.
