Hi all

I've looked at the jacking points on my latest purchase (1996 E320T) and they don't look brilliant.

So, I want to remove the sill covers in order to do a thorough inspection/rectification. Is this easy to do? Obviously I can see the line of hex headed screws running along the underside but is that all there is to it - or are there a number of fiddly hidden clips to negotiate?

If it's easy I'll do it myself but if it's not it'll have to go to the local Merc specialist as I WILL break the clips!

Thanks

John

I did it on a similar age C class. It wasn't very difficult. As I recall there were a couple of screws that are easily accesible and a load of plastic trim clips. Somehow I managed to save a couple of the clips, but expect to replace most of them.

Cheers, might do that.

I've got all the screws off from underneath on the driver's side but the trim is obviously held on by other screws or clips and I can't for the life of me figure out where they are or how to get at them.

I've been able to poke around the jacking points though, and the rear 2 are both shot, so the car will have to go to the workshop anyway.

Also, when I prised the driver's side off I was dismayed by the amount of mud and cr@p that came out of the front end of the trim, behind the front wheel.

Therefore I think I'll just take the car to a local Merc indy and get them to remove all of the plastic trim, Sacco panels and all, while they're welding the jacking points (and another significant bit of rust I've just discovered . . . ) so that I can get all the sills, door bottoms front wings etc properly cleaned and protected with Waxoyl/Dinitrol etc before they all go back on again.

Plastic body panels? What a brilliant idea - well done Mercedes!
