How I nearly died / or the perils of big feet.
Discussion
This rotten weather has seen me using my road bike a lot more these last few weeks; something I hardly ever do as I'm a mountain biker by heart.
Last week I discovered an interesting effect of modern road bike geometry and feet size.
I was waiting for my mate to catch up at a road junction (a T junction from minor to major road) with my wheel turned about 40 degrees to the left. I looked back, saw my mate approaching, so stood up onto the pedals to go into a track stand, only to find the tip of my right foot trapped between the frame and the wheel.
Being unable to move the wheel it meant that I started to fall out into the main road - there was a car coming up at the time too - to which my natural reaction was to try to turn the wheel to regain my balance but that simply trapped my foot with greater force. Thankfully - as I really would have gone under the car - I managed to wrench my foot out of the self made bear trap and arrest the fall at the last minute. Shaking I sank over the bars pondering how narrowly I'd just escaped being squashed.
My mate, having seen all this, arrived pissing himself and asked why I'd just tried to commit suicide.

Bloody road bikes

Good effort! I've not nearly killed myself, however I have done similar.
While waiting, my right foot was high and forward while clipped in. The handlebars turned left a long way.
So I stood up to push off, and couldn't turn the wheels straight! Fortunately I could turn left and just ride round in a big circle, but it was bloomin ridiculous
