zero budget bike build

Hello,

I'm looking at building a single speed road bike to take back to uni with me, only issue is, i have a budget of around £100. I'm going to trawl through the local newspapers and see if i can get an old racing bike and spruce it up a bit. I'm fairly handy with a set of spanners and allen keys and rebuilding a bike doesn't phase me at all (i've done two mountain bikes before). I don't mind a bit of surface rust as I'm going to rub it down and paint it anyway.

Im on the look out for free/cheap road bike parts so if you have an old bars/stems/brake parts/wheels/cranks etc that you don't want let me know! (I'm in cheshire)

you would be mistaken. I'm 6ft5 and getting on for 16stone. i just need to burn off some lard. i will be having brakes and a freewheel. i live in cheshire and go to uni in coventry so i don't really use gears too much, both are pretty flat places.

Because it's a good place to obtain cheap bikes, but they may be "hot".

impressive, that's a hell of a commute eveen with a geared bike...

Get on ebay....you may get lucky and get a ready made fixed gear bike. I did, cost me a lot less than it would have, even buying cheap parts.

If you are buying bits, check out www.lfgss.com, a few guys will post bits though some wont.

AHA, might have my first bit of luck on buying a dead cheap roady. A 1983 Raleigh Road/race bike in fully working and decent order! not got it yet though so fingers crossed it doesn't fall through. The guy has said he has 2 potential buyers at the moment. Lets hope....

If i get there first, i will upload pics and commence and document build!
