Since interest rates aren't very high, I'm looking to invest 4k on something that will give me more money, than sticking it in to my isa. I won't have the money until september though. I could ivest in some Tesco shares, as the share price is the lowest I've seen them in 7 years. I already have about 5k in Tesco shares, which I'm not too happy about as I paid about 6k for them. I'd like to put the 4k somewhere else other than shares, but I have no idea where else to invest the 4k, so can people give me ideas please?

You put £5k in tesco shares but it cost you £6k?

How long can you be without the money? Can you afford to lose it? Attitude to risk, time to spend managing etc?

Answer these and we'll have a better idea

Why the question?

I assume the share price has dropped since he invested £6k and based on this they would be worth £5k, if he were to sell them now.

I've been buying them every 4 weeks for the past 7 years.

I can't lose the money, as my mum is giving me it. She won't be happy with me if I did lose the money. I don't need the money, and I can't see me needing it for several years. I'd like to put the money somewhere I can leave it until I want the money. I have thought about spreading it abit, like gold and other metals and maybe shares.

I'm no expert on personal finance and investment, but how about a tracker ISA? Might spread the risk a bit further than punting it all on a single company.

As for gold, I think you may have missed the boat and that one could be quite volatile (historic performance gives no guarantee of the future etc etc)
