Boardman Road Comp or Specialized Allez? Compare?

Looking to get my first road bike (and first ever serious bike - not ridden in 7 years) and I don't really have a clue when it comes to the technology and terminology.
Anyone got any views on these two, chosen based on their bikeradar.com rating.

Are they much of a muchness? Or are the differences quite significant?

That's why I started looking at it.I've not done any riding since I was about 14 (now 21) and that would better be described as messing around on a bike...
I've never ridden a road bike before although the idea of it is very appealing.
I think I'm going to go for the Boardman in a 53cm frame size (5'10 with 31 inch inside leg) and assemble it myself - my experience of Halfords todays was that they were idiots!

i had a boardman road team from 2008 and loved it, it was fast and comfy and was a really nice alu frame. well spec'd for the money and i only sold it to avoid dealing with a very grumpy wife when i replaced it. i didnt need to upgrade it at all in reality as it did everything i asked of it but i was bitten by the carbon bug...
go for it, halfords mechanics can be hit and miss dependant upon where you are in the country but i always say buy it boxed from halfords, take it home and finish off the build yourself (its not hard, bolt the bars and pedals on and thats pretty much it. spanner check and ride off...) you wont regret it.
as others have said the Allez is an ok bike but it is the default "new roadie" bike and lacks any sort of imagination from specialised. its quite poor value for money, specilasied have the biggest buying power of any brand which should hold huge weight with suppliers to get the best spec on the bikes for the money spent by the customer but oddly it doesnt work out like that.

Planning to do that; it's part of the appeal!I am currently living in a flat so can't tinker with my car much but at least I will be able to beautifully maintain a bike.

I bought one of these a few weeks ago and am very pleased so far. Not that I have anything to compare it to though. I like the look of it to, although I can see the primer grey colour could be a marmite colour.

You've had a road bike ten mins, wouldn't start shouting the odds just yet! You may think you've bought a masterpiece but it's pretty much an Allez with a different paint job, like most bikes at this price point.
Op nothing wrong with the Allez, it's sold thousands of them for a reason. Good residual value, reliable, good looking.

I have owned both.
The Boardman is the better equipped. Not sure now as they have cheapened it up but it will still be a lighter package. BUT I preferred the geometry/handling/ride of the Allez. Boardmans are quite aggresive so get a proper fitting rather than relying on barely trained Halfords staff. The Allez is a good frame, people who slag it off are doing so out of ignorance. The groupset would swing it for me as the new lower end Shimano stuff feels awful.
My recommendation is ride both then go onto eBay and find something.

Just maybe your tone that is a bit misleading, when you are dishing out advice to people, even though you were the one asking for it a week ago, its a little silly to tell other people how to spend their £1000.The 'Impulso' is just the same as any other road bike at that level, apart from soe slightly different geo, a paintjob, its no different, and I would imagine is no quicker or better than an allez of the same spec.
Tell me why you think otherwise and I'll listen, but until then, maybe you can see why people reccomend Ribble, Canyon, you get a LOT more for your money. AND the bikes are decent too.

I bought an Allez (Double) last year from the London Tri show at the Excel Centre, it was brand new with a small shop mark on the header down tube.
I paid £350.00 for it from a reputable stealer who made sure it fitted me right, before they would sell me anything.
Its been a great intro to road biking again after XX years away, i've also done a couple of Tri's on it and found it to be a very capable kit, it also looks nice.
