I've been looking at the classified both before and since purchasing my car.

I can't help but notice a number of cars have been on for months and haven't sold. A number seem reasonably priced too...

The huge majority of cars seem to be with dealers and the only one who seems to consistently shift them is 911 Virgin.

Ive also noticed this too. 996 GT3s seem to be in a similar position where they are hanging around and being reduced.

Dealer cars do seem to sell a lot quicker judging by 911virgin etc though. With the potential for big bills especially on the heavily tracked 996 GT3s, I reckon most buyers will want some sort of warranty/ back up if something expensive needs replacing.

I know it sounds funny but the wheather does not help. It does not put people in the car buying mood.

Good cars sell

Rough cars dont

So a lot of the cheap examples are used and abused and hence reduce in price or dont sell wink

Oh... and the weather is ste, so no one wants a nice car to drive round in! I taken mine out about 4 time in the last 10 monts as the weather is crap!

GT3 season is restricted to just a few weeks, this year has been a washout so far.

This reminds me very much of a recent thread which highlighted poor sales of the 991.

Of course the reason in that case (according to the old pork and GT3 drivers on PH) was that the 991 is an overpriced luxobarge and that it had nothing to do with the parlous state of our economy. Obviously that couldn't be the reason here....

Could it?

No you are correct..economy (worldwide)is fooked...guns and gold the way forward..however wouldnt ever buy a 991 when the 992/4/5 is on the drawing board already driven by Audi bean counters .Has to be be pre mass production to stand a chance of being worth anything imo.

Which 997 GT3 is being referred to? .1 or .2. Standard or RS? Some of these are in demand some are not, and they are spec sensitive. Also as pointed out already the buying season has a small fixed window each year.

yes The new cars are too good, too competent, too well equipped - too audi'sh and they have just got involved.

BTW, do think the Boxster is a good value smile

Looks good to me and the right price..wont hold its value though as infinite supply..buy one and lose 25% in a year but will have fun driving it.

Well for me this isn't really a car you buy privately and the only "indie" I was going to trust was 911 Virgin as I know them and had bought from them before. However, when I was looking at OPC's - there really weren't that many to choose from! (I've just checked again and there are 9 - 5 Gen1's and 4 Gen2's) ..... scratchchin

Good point - well made! I had no idea that there were quite so few registered, let alone still in circulation! Only 6 others were registered in the same year as my 997 and only 400 odd of the entire number of GT3's originally registered here are still on DVLA records ....

So have loads been written off or are the cars are being exported to right hand drive markets like Hong Kong, Singapore etc?

That data doesn't look accurate - there were none registered in 2006-2008, so it looks like all the 997.1 gt3's have been logged somewhere else.

My thoughts have turned to changing the C2S for a 997 Gen 1 GT3......most likely road use only.....so what spec is classed as essential and what is desirable ?

Spec is purely personal.

Hence why Porsche do a lot of options.
Hardly any two cars are the same.

Some like parking sensors and Bose,
I like bucket seats and leather dash.

I have no idea what you might like, nor does any one else here and the thread will just get lost in what's right and wrong for a GT3 for the next 13 pages.

For me its something along the lines of:

Clubsport specification
Cup differential
Cup crown wheel and pinion
Uprated rose jointed suspension
Uprated dampers/springs
Larger brakes

And so on......

About a week - when I decide I want something I become a little obsessional !

I checked out what was available on P/H and elsewhere - there were a few others I was interested in but didn't have everything I was looking for i.e GT seats, carbon brakes etc - this seemed like a very good car from a very good dealer - only here once and all that !!!
