I spent several hours trying to fix my horn last night. There was no +12V on at the horns when the swithc was pressed so tried to trace through the electrics to find a fuse or relay. Couldn't find anything wrong there - continuity was fine.

Then looked at the switch mechanism & found one of the wires had broken off the horn switch. Aha ! Soldering iron out, re-soldered it. Pressed the horn switch. Nothing.

Right, so must be the brush is not making contact with the ring thing, I thought. However, I couldn't find the brush. I guessed I must have removed it when I took the column out so spent ages looking round the garage, in various spare parts boxes etc. Nothing. Gave up at that point.

This morning, I decided I would have to order a new brush contact thingymajig. Using the parts list I found the Ford switchgear online. Odd, I thought, in the picture there seemed to be a horn switch at the end of the stalk. Mine has the horn switch in the centre of the steering wheel !?

Went back out to the car at lunchtime, saw the button on the stalk. Pressed it.

PAAAARRRRRPPP !!!

I shouldn't be allowed near cars.

I've experienced something similar.

My S3 'failed' its MOT for an 'inoperative horn' until I pointed out to the nice tester man that the horn was on the end of the stalk and not the wheel centre!

Today, there are people in the world discovering Higgs bosons and stuff. I am completely at the other end of the competancy spectrum from these people. I bet I even spelt competancy incorrectly.

The winter before last ie the really cold one, I spent over two hours in the garage one night at minus 4 trying to work out why the instrument lights weren’t working. When my fingers got too numb to do anything I came in and kicked off my shoes beside the dash which was lying on the floor in the kitchen. Yes, that’s right, the dash with the dimmer switch on it. What a plonker! bangheadlaugh

That's why I just love this forum, & the people on it. It's the honesty we can all equate to, 'S' forum, 'S'pecial people.
Except for me of course...

and people who are not too keen on other road users.
With two legs or four......

It takes a special kind of person to admit to being a total numpty, even though we've all been there. I wish somebody would help me. I would like to contribute to the SCH Charity, but I don't even know what a "bump" is. I've considered getting a laptop, but I really don't fancy those stilletoes digging into my thighs.

Can anyone help?

And tonight’s nomination for top plonker – I let my battery run flat and had to find the release wire. Good job I made sure it was located in the right place when I tidied up the boot last year. Shame I used a bit too much gaffer tape to hold it in position though. banghead

To put your hands up to this is brilliant, the man who hasn't made a mistake hasn't made anything.

And today’s entry – unplugging the radio instead of the soldering iron – and then picking up the sodding soldering iron by the wrong end thinking it would be cold yikes

I'll have that hat back now please laugh

Only just spotted thread and it'd be rude not to contribute...

Had a great day out with the local TVRCC at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) at Coningsby on Sunday. Car posed right in the front for all the pics. Just about to go on the tour and can see the weather heading in so it's roof on time. Shall just pop the keys in the ignition to pop the boot. Hmmm, keys, I know I had them to get hereconfused. Then the realisation that they are, probably, yikeseek, in the boot.

With thr roof off I could use my trusty swiss army knife to get the lower cover off the sterring column and get at the switch. But before I could ponder what next I was surrounded by helpful TVR types and BBMF mechanics that proceeded to dismantle my car. Well, the known access points for such an eventuality (nuf said!).

Job was done in time for me to have the tour and roof was fitted just before the downpour.

Big thanks again to all for helping clap

BTW - I've tried the centre boss rather than the stalk a few times.
