MG Midget 1500 Gearbox Bracket
Discussion
I have purchased a Midget and the original gearbox mounts have been cut away to fit a gearbox from a 1500 spitfire in, however the original gearbox has stayed in now and a new bracket has been welded in place all I have to do now is re drill the holes for the mount and re bolt . Are there any complications I have to watch for apart from the obvious drilling issues. Thanks

It's the same gearbox isn't it? unless they planned to fit an overdrive box of course.
Yea . They planned to fit a gearbox from the 1500 spitfire as it is a 5 shift not 4 , so they removed the old brackets to allow for the new box. Then ended up keeping old box and welding a cross member bracket but it isn't attached yetHooli said:
That's what I mean, the Spitfire was a four speed the same as the MG. It was indeed the same engine & box. What'd they got in the Spit? a Type 9? or one of the jap conversions?
Honestly I don't no, all the previous owner said was the brackets were removed because they were going to fit a 5 shift from a spitfire.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
