If someone was to visit Amsterdam and sample the delights of the "Brown Cafes", would he have any problems making his way through security as the airport/ferry terminal?

Are security staff likely to smell/swab anything suspicious on clothing/bags if they had been in a Brown Cafe just a few hours earlier

(I am asking on behalf of a friend, etc.)

Last I heard you couldn't be arrested for having cannabis residue on your clothes.

Some friends have recently come back from Amsterdam, they mentioned how it feels funny to still be high when you land in the UK from the weed they smoked in Amsterdam.

Was over there two weeks ago on a wee break, no problems getting back through Stansted.

What if, say, he went on a ferry with his precious.... erm... Z4M and the Ferry security swabbed traced of suspicious residue on hand luggage. Would they start stripping the car down in case they thought it must be concealing substances?

We flew back from the US the other week and debated if it was okay to drive pissed when we got back, IF, all the alcohol had been consumed in another country. smile
It's the blood alcohol level that matters, not where the alcohol was consumed.

Customs are only interested in what you bring in. Not what you've been up to.

Yes, they would. I came perilously close to that with the £500 shed I took to the 'ring because the customs guy didn't believe it would have made it and thought I was smuggling. Luckily I had some proof in the car - ring tickets, hotel receipts, and most importantly a sticker on the boot. biggrin

When I drive bands over to Europe, we always, always, get stopped both ways.

Went on a business trip to the flower markets in Amsterdam, (a long story involving alcohol, weed and illicit shagging), the boss had to be wheeled through Schipol absofkinglutely stoned, but customs didn't bat an eyelid at the state of her, because there was nothing left in her cases, she'd swallowed it all!

They always ask where you have come from at Dover. A few times I have come through at an ungodly hour in an Audi full of young blokes. I guess if the answer was Amsterdam they would have dismantled the car and passengers.

I had a car completely dismantled by customs after a weekend in Amsterdam. It took them an hour and a half but they found it eventually. It wasn't drugs.
