We are thinking of travelling to Uganda for a holiday later this year to visit mrs2100 friends.
However we are coming up short on the best flights there and accommodation.
We have found a hotel near Kampala which looked good, however at $100 per night seems excessive for that area.
Can anybody help with the best way of finding flights and more sensibly priced accommodation?

I'd say specialist travel agents might be the way forward for Uganda. At least for the accommodation side of things. Flights-wise sites like Hipmunk, Kayak, Skyscanner etc should have decent rates. Those prices do seem quite steep, but most hotels booked before you go in that area will be very nice, more upmarket type stuff I'd say.
Hi Tim,
I've backpacked around Uganda for a few weeks so may have some ideas that will be of help. For flights, Ben is right in saying Skyscanner. Just have a look on there and they'll be the best priced.
As for accommodation, you say you've found a hotel "near Kampala". Wherabouts? The city itself has many different things to offer so it depends what you'd like but I'd need to know what you'd like to see/where you'd like to stay.
As for $100 for the night, is that for the room or per person? Depending on the area, that may in fact be reasonably priced for the room.
Just so you know what info i have, when i was 18 a couple of years ago i backpacked from Cape Town to Zanzibar so have seen plenty of African cities. From Maputo to Lilongwe, Kampala to Kigali, they will all have "Western" standard hotels but these carry a premium, as does anything "western" in such cities.. For example, the South African hotel chain "Protea" is very similar to Best Western in standard and they are present in many african cities such as Kampala. Having a quick look on tripadvisor, i note that it's £77-161 per night.
I'll stop babbling. Just let me know how many nights you have total and i'll give you some suggestions
