I'm looking to go on a 'proper' holiday with rest and relaxation in September. Has anyone been there and can tell me what its like?

When I was much younger. Think of Blackpool with sun and locals that are more sleezy than those on a small Greek island.
Its horrendous. Girls I met over their got constantly pestered (even ones with their boyfriends and more so if blonde).

But if you are a big heffer who is looking to meet locals for romance while buying fake designer gear, this is the place for you! (not you OP, just speaking in general). Put it this way it is one of the last places I would allow my daughter to go on a girls holiday once she is older

You and missus, young family ?

We recently stayed at the Marmaris Palace, nearer Icmeler than Marmaris but a leisurely stroll to either along the sea front path, absolutely perfect for families, clean, good food, great pools beautiful setting.

We where there during 1/2 term so was full of kids ours included, we walked into Marmaris to purchase our genuine fake gear and into Icmeler for a few evening meals, all well priced and fair quality.

All in for the price paid excellent break.

This months Conde Nast traveller magazine has Best Boutique Hotels on the Turkish Coast.
Worth a read.
Marmaris for all its strengths and weaknesses certainly has plenty to offer. If things are not to your taste there are many other local villages and seaside gems. Turkbuku being one.

Icmeler, the next resort along is better. You can get a bus, boat, or walk to Marmaris from there, but you don't actually have to stay there...

We visited for four hours when we went to Icmeler, and that was enough!

I echo that. Marmaris is like Blackpool.

Icmeler - local bye-law says that all discos must finish by midnight. Much more relaxing place.

Good places to go: Can's Bar at Black Rock beach, & Sportsman's Bar in the town centre.

Or tackle the mountain road to the next town along, Turunc. Best of the three down that way by far IMO.
