Custom foot beds - Will they cope with toe amputation!

I know it's unlikely I will get the exact answer to that one, but recently I had my little toe and most of my outer metatarsal removed and have struggled on my bikes since. I can't put significant load into the ball of my foot (vis SPD pedals) without pain.

I've converted my MTB back to flat pedals but can't stand it and the road bike is currently an expensive ornament.

So before I spend money on either the home remedy 'sole' heat formable option or something even more custom I'd be interested in any view, opinions and thoughts!

I have some SPD SL pedals for the road bike (but no shoes to match as yet) so I guess this may help being wider than the local loading from normal SPDs, but comfort in the shoe will still be an issue.

I used to suffer lots of pain with ski boots - made a lot better with custom foot beds. For what it's worth, it might be worth your while taking your shoes to a decent ski shop and see what they think.

My footbeds are made of three types of foam, heat formed into shape and set pretty rigid - a trait that should be good news for cycling if they can be fitted into the shoe - you may need to go up a couple of sizes to get them in.

I find my road SPD SLs more comfy than mtb SPDs, although I wouldn't fancy riding an MTB with SLs!
