Front crank bash gaurd

Hi me again and more questions.
Ive decided to upgrade my Giant Revel 3 for a Focus Raider 1.0. Now one issue I have is the Giant has a front bash guard on the crank, now I find this handy mainly because I predominantly ride with jogging suite trousers (I often use the bike for Geocaching which can often mean clambering around in nettles etc. meaning shorts are often not suitable). Now it seems to be the case (and certainly in the new bikes case) that very few now come with these bash guards. I did ask the LBS that are supplying the bike, they do a universal fit, but as with most things of universal fit its a bit shonky and sticks out a fair bit.
A bit of google hunting and Shimano do a bash gaurd for some SLX gear sets but not others, does anyone know if these can be fitted or have any other suggestions. Thanks again.

with regards to the SLX chainset, the bash guard basically replaces the outer ring which I assume is the set up on your current bike.
unless its a 2x10 set up, this gets annoying on the flats as the gearing isnt best suited. Instead of a 2x10 set up of say, 40 and 28 up front with a rear casette to suit, you end up with something like 32 and 24 upfront without the wider ratios at the back so you are pedalling away at a high cadence and still going very slowly.
I'm pretty sure there are after market bash guards that replace the outer chainring.

The bash guards you've found are probably full bash guards for trail/DH use where you'll have to sacrifice a chain ring to fit them.
The universal fit from lbs is probably your best bet unfortunately. Either that or get a clip thing to wear around your trouser leg to stop them being baggy and getting sucked into the chain.
