Hi all,

Have a buyer flying up on tuesday to buy my Exige S so all going well I will be on the lookout (well continued) for a 997 Carrera S around about 08/09. Looking for one with Carrera S II alloys, sat nav, sports chrono, bose sound package, rear parking sensors & sports seats. Would also like the heated seats and rear wiper but I think I may struggle to find one with all my desired options so would miss these out if needed. Im also still undecided on the manual or PDK option but have never driven a pdk car...

My question is just looking for a rough ballpark on what you would be expecting to get off a advertised dealer £50K car with a cash offer just to give me an idea of what I could be expecting to get.

Thanks,

Kevin

The same answer as ever to these type of questions. It depends entirely on the car.

A well optioned car that is excellent value for money - Nothing.

A purple with green leather sitting on 13 inch Rostyle alloys and 5 grand over priced - Quite a lot !

Educate yourself as to what fair market value is and bid accordingly. Some cars a fantastic buys at the asking price, others are still too expensive at £5k off the asking price.

No hard and fast rule, it all depends on how much the dealer has in the car and how keen he is to get out of it. I usually ask them for their best price and then tell them I will think about it, if the phone goes I know there's more room in it. The trick is not to give them your target figure first. Car sounds nice and if it was me I wouldn't worry about a rear wiper, fugly and useless, rainx will do the job. I'd also go manual if it's a 997, but just my opinion.

The slight issue here OP is that you have massively narrowed the choice for yourself by being so specific on the spec.

I'm assuming you're after a Gen.2 C2S, and as there seems to be a very limited supply of decent spec. examples at present, I suspect very little discount, if any.

I notice 911Virgin have sold their recently acquired one already.

Good Luck.

yes

It's not where you start, it's where you finish. If that's the same place and it's a good deal then that's fine don't worry about not getting a discount - the point is you still got a good deal. smile

Call the dealer to find out how much they would offer for a car with that spec then work from there.

Twenty grand off for cash is a reasonable amount. All dealers are rip-off merchants. They probably only paid ten for the car.

Cheers for the replies. Yeah I realise with the spec I'm looking for I have limited my choices and will probably have to end up dropping some of the spec I would like to get a car.

Why do people still think that buying a car from a dealer for cash will net them a better deal? All dealers get a commission from the finance house, so it's in their interests to sell it on the strap!

Agree, probably not a lot off for cash if anything hardly, not like the old days when a cash sale was 'off the record'. Most dealers seem more interested in selling finance not cars. In fact been to a few dealers looked at cars and said no thanks but been offered finance deals if I do buy somewhere else. Gives a good idea about about where money is made in dealing with cars these days.
