Any other PHers riding in this race this weekend? I found out yesterday that I had been signed up the solo 24hr race by a friendclap I haven't ridden a bike since the Megavalanche last year and before that I hadn't ridden for 10 years yikes

I am worried that I may not see Monday! I can't say no to a challenge so will be taking a bike and a helmet and will be on the start line at 12 noon ready for the Le Mans start.

Look out for a corpse riding a white Kona Hardtail!

by all accounts the solo riders get a lot of love during the night hours, you'll be fine. have a look on singletrackworld as there will be a fair few from there racing/competing/suriving...

With the awful weather/soft ground I am going to aim to do 100miles. I still think I will spend more time in the tent (or my car with the heater on) than on the saddle!

The Mega was fine. I'd never ridden a downhill track before and loved every minute of it! I had zero fitness (due to a very bad back) and started at the beginning of the holiday being able to do only 3 minutes riding without needing a rest. Come race day, apart from stopping due to front brake issues, I did it in one go.
I could write forever about the trip but all i would say is that practising riding on a steep slope thick with snow and boulders would be helpful before you get there! hehe

Enjoy it mate you'll be fine, my genuine story is my first go on a mountain bike in Nov 2011, enjoyed went into hospital for an operation and entered the Straphpuffer for Jan 12 whilst in hospital, enjoyed it.

Best of luck, hope its dry for you through the night.

Just back from this event. The conditions were beyond tough - we were averaging 2 hours per lap compared with around 1:20h last year. Well done to anyone who took part.

It should really have been cancelled. It certainly wasn't an event for solos. After 1 lap of trying to ride and drag a crazy heavy bike, myself and friend (a frequent endurance racer- he did 2 laps) we called it a day before the bikes got damaged or we killed ourselves pushing hard on the descents. It wasn't fun so no pressure to keep lapping. Such a shame that the ground was so poor.
