hybrid with hub-gears - talk to me . . .

about to try and find/buy a decent Hybrid for my wife with hub gears - she has problems with her joints and finds the front gear-changer infuriatingly impossible!!!
Was thinking of Rohloff, but at c£2500 for a decent build its out of our budget - so Shimano Alfine 11 seems the ticket - any experiences/recommendations please.
MUST be 700c wheels and a comfortable geo for c30 mile rides.
PS - if Alfine made a 130mm hub, problem would be solved
as I could just convert her current bike.

The one and only experience Ive had with the Alphine and it wasnt got. My mate Rich had one on an Onone Whippet, It was constantly siezing, not changing properly and basically a PITA. In the end Onone took the nike back and now he has a 1x10 Whippet. Sorry for the very biased review Im sure this was a friday afternoon special
