S1 Front Caliper
Discussion
Any thoughts on whether this looks like the right one for the drivers front caliper of an S1:

Very probably correct as there were few changes in Sierra disc set ups. Piston diameter is correct. The original calipers were Lucas BCW186E (nearside) and BCW187E (offside). I suggest you email the seller to confirm these are equivalent to those Lucas numbers (if he knows his stuff he will have that information readily to hand). If, for some strange reason, he doesnt know I can check out his published part number tomorrow.
Cool - I'll mail them. In the meantime I came across this link, now I'm pretty sure my S1 shares common brake components with that Griffith so that's a pretty compelling argument to treat myself to a pair.
Can't really go wrong at that price.

Please let me know if the part numbers do match the old Lucas numbers so we can add that info to the Alternative Parts List. Incidentally according to my mate in the Car Component business ATE are OK. Interesting to see that the website you provided as a link lists the springs etc separately. These parts are often difficult to source.

According to my TRW (Lucas) brake catalogue, there were only two types of front caliper ever fitted to the Sierra (all models), one with 54mm diameter pistons and one with 60mm diamter pistons. I believe the S uses the smaller caliper as standard. Both were Teves as original equipment (a division of ATE) - the rear calipers only were Lucas OE. The TRW part numbers are BCW186/7 E.

Assuming S1 hubs are the same as later one's - maybe time for an easy upgrade?

Don't know about "rare and sought after" - the last pair in that state went for £16.50!
Or better still

Just a thought & I don't know if it's relevent to S's, but my daughter had a problem with a sticking caliper on her old Escort. It turned out to be a collapsed (internally) flexi brake hose which allowed pressure to the caliper but wouldn't let fluid return when the brake pedal was released.
Worth bearing in mind.

Thanks for the help & offers guys, I went ahead and ordered those calipers from my first link and they arrived today. I haven't had a reply back from the seller to confirm they are a direct replacement but they certainly look right!
As it happens the brakes are working perfectly again now, no sticking, no pulling just lovely clean braking in a straight line...
Still going to fit the new ones though

its exactly what i am doing....... with pics snd everything. I also found original (?) caliper carrier retaining bolts have very small heads, ended up using a 21/32 socket instead of 17mm - sand even that was slightly loose. Pigs to get carriers off a the hose gets in the way. any way - story so far here

Just to confirm - those calipers are the right ones for the S series as a std replacement and at £27 they are a bargain. I had a garage fi them whilst i was on holiday and for a pair of new calipers and pads the bill was under £100 so I am very pleased.
If there's a way to get them added to the "alternative parts list" I'd recommend it..
